I don’t have a direct answer, but in FCPX 10.1 you can choose any resolution you want, so maybe it would be easier to work with projects set to 640×640?

For our workflow, I like keeping everything in the library. That makes in incredibly portable, which works well with switching work stations and for our tape backups.

The main reason to shoot at higher framerates is to get smooth looking slow motion by playing it back at 24/30fps.

To keep real time, 60fps footage either needs to be played back at 60fps or drop half the frames to play at 30fps.

People usually prefer to shoot at the framerate they want to edit in unless they want slow motion.

I personally like the look of 60fps played back at 60fps, I hear James Cameron is experimenting with that.

Peter Jackson used 48 fps for The Hobbit.

But if you want to maximize compatibility, you should edit in 24 or 30fps, which means it’s usually a better choice to shoot in either 24 or 30fps.

I’d love to see more stuff playback at 60fps, but unfortunately it’s not that easy to find players that handle it as everything is built for 24/25/30.

If you start with 60fps and want to finish in 30fps you’re going to have to drop frames or slow down the playback. So you will lose some quality.

You can ignore compressor and motion for now. Motion is a great place to create titles and visual effects. Compressor give you control over how to decrease the files sizes.

However, you can do some great titles, effects, and compression within FCPX so I’d focus on learning that first.

Combining 2 cameras is easy when using the multicam function. Google Larry Jordan of watch some youtube tutorials and come back with specific questions.

Transcoded media can always be regenerated as long as you have the original media. The multicam clips will just reference the original media.

2 ways to delete render files. Select each of your events in FCPX and choose File–> Delete Event Render files.

Alternatively, select your library in finder, right click, and choose “show package contents.”

You’ll see all of your events and projects in there. Delete any folders called Render Files or Transcoded media.

Just remember that if it took a long time to render or transcode anything, it will take a long time again.

While I love the new libraries as a concept, the implementation is still half baked. It is not currently possible to have projects referencing events in separate libraries, so the projects and events have to stay in one library.

You can make your library much smaller by storing your media outside of the library, and even smaller by deleting render files and transcoded media.

I’d guess file corruption, which can happen if you force close FCPX when it’s ingesting, generating proxies, or rendering.

Try deleting your render and transcoded files and see if that helps.
