Save RAM with keyboard shortcuts!
Can’t believe I just realized this:
You can set the keyboard properties in the key command editor. Here’s what I changed:
Customize keyboard shortcuts:
Clip Appearance: Clip Labels Only – option-command-w (ram saving mode – no thumbs or waveforms, really speeds it up)
Clip Appearance: Waveform and Filmstrips – optionss-fit-w (bring back the thumbnails and the waveforms)
Great way to boost performance quickly. Hope this helps someone!

This since 10.0.9 i believe, with alt-ctrl 1 to 6 to switch Timeline views.
I still wish there was a way to expand/reduce clip heights via shortcut too…

Control Option up and down arrow will cycle through the views. No key commands for clip height in the timeline however. I have F1 and F2 mapped to Clip Labels Only and Clip Waveforms Only. F3 is mapped to Large Filmstrip. I find those three the most handy.
