February 28, 2014 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Working Methods for working off server in Final Cut X 10.1It sounds like you’re accessing the san with Ethernet, which won’t work. As far as I know, your best bet is to set your default backups to go to your san, or use something like rsync to back up your libraries without the render files and transcoded media.

I have libraries going over 200gigs and haven’t noticed any performance issues from that.

If you have Motion 5, open it up and choose Final Cut Effect from the template browser.
Go to library/filters and find Color Balance (I think that’s the one). Apply it to Effect Source in the timeline.
Once you save it, it will be available as a filter in FCPX.

When you can’t undo, it means its also not writing changes to disk. This can happen due to a corrupted event or project, a disk going offline or having errors, or file permissions. I’m sure there are other causes as well, but to me I’d be concerned that it’s a symptom of a larger problem – such as a failing disk or a loose USB/firewire connection.
If it’s project/event corruption – creating a new project/event and copying everything into it should fix it.
If its permissions and its not your system drive, you can select “Get Info” in finder for the drive and check the “ignore permissions on this disk” box, and that should clear it up.
If the drive is failing, you’ll likely be getting i/o errors in your console.app

After updating to 10.1, several – but not all – of our macpros were sluggish to the point of being unusable. I don’t know if it was mavericks or FCPX10.1, but using digital rebellion’s preference manager to trash all of my preferences cleared the problem up.

Make sure to select the drive in finder and select “get info.” There’s a checkbox that says “ignore ownership on this volume.” Try checking that and see if that helps.
