Yup i have used my G4 1.25 ghz iBook to capture and edit HDV. HDV files are very similar to DV files so i noticed no real difference so what u r using is overkill!!!

  • If u really want to export the clips, just open the clips from the timeline in the viewer and go file menu>Export>Current settings. The big trick is opening the file in after effects, in my previous experience AE thinks the footage is 16:9 and 1920×1080. Make sure when u create a compostion the setting are 1440×1080 and the clip fits that composition perfectly. When i bring the finished clip back to FCP it is the same dimensions as the original. I use the apple intermediate codec when i export from AE.
    hope that helps

December 9, 2006 at 9:05 am in reply to: scratch disk and memory problems HELP!

OK Breathe! How many hard disk drives do u have? Sounds like u only have 1 hard disk drive and u are trying to set the scratch disk location to different places on the one drive. This will not make a diference as it is on the same full drive. u have to set the new scratch disk location on a totally seperate drive, if u have one.

I’m not a person who could answer the question, BUT u may find u have to add a bit more info about what the cameras wil be used for and what type of system u will be running with it to get a valid answer.
    cheers

December 4, 2006 at 4:52 pm in reply to: Making QT movie NON save-able/downloadable

Hmmm its a little bit tricky. I used to use a program called live stage pro in which u could write a script that took the viewer out of the page the QT movie was embedded in before it completely had loaded. I would put a bit of extra black on at the end so the viewer could see the whole movie before it took them away. With todays recording software u are pretty much out of luck. The best bet is not to use QT, try something a little more obscure which may hinder the viewers experience (codecs, quality etc) but will be a bit more secure. Good luck i’m sure there is a good way to do it.

Hmmm definitely something with your settings. The best way to go about getting the right settings is to click on “Easy Setup” in the Final Cut Pro menu and select the correct HDV setting, all sequences u create should be the right setting, specially if u captured at the setting.
    good luck

Not sure if this helps but its easier to do it in the Boris Text plugin that come with FCP.

September 29, 2006 at 1:21 am in reply to: Is there a way to get more than 1 viewer?

Hmm not in front of my FCP but…Try opening the clip in the viewer by going file>open>whatever.mov then the clip should open in a viewer window by itself and u can open another clip in another viewer by selecting it in the browser. Thus a sneaky workaround for multiple viewers. To have even more viewers, open more clips via the file menu. Kinda messy but should work for u as u can edit in the new viewer.
    good luck

Not sure u can. Ive heard some Windows users have work arounds invoving cache files so there is probably a way to do on a Mac. My only solution is to use a program like SnapzPro to record it.
