HDV Export how to? Compressor? Quicktime Conversion? MPEG2?
Hi all.
This is my firstime working in HDV native editing on FCP5, and apart from the gruelling and awkward upstart and I have completed a native HDV 1080i PAL (1440×1080) edit. Now my next phase is to take the footage into AE7 for chromakeying.
I have never exported HDV before on FCP, only captured then rendered out to SD. So i am at a loss as to my next step. I have heard the application compressor banded about a abit. But i have only ever used to to convert SD footage into the correct format within DVDStudio pro, and not FCP.
Please can you advise of what my next step should be in terms of taking the final edit into AE7. All advice is appreciated.

I think that the matter is to try to recompress and change formats the less posible times. If you can go to AE without rendering in FC, you avoid to loos a generation of your footage.

Thanks for the reply Rafael. My problem is I dont know what format to export to. I tried the uncompressed bit 8, but that just resized my final quicktime movie to 720×576. I want to retain my size ratio, but output as uncompressed as possible, i dont know how to do this.

Export a reference movie from your timeline of the shots you want to key. Then open that reference movie in AE.
Or purchase the Automatic Duck Pro Import for After Effects and export an XML from your FCP timeline. That timeline will open intact in AE.

If u really want to export the clips, just open the clips from the timeline in the viewer and go file menu>Export>Current settings. The big trick is opening the file in after effects, in my previous experience AE thinks the footage is 16:9 and 1920×1080. Make sure when u create a compostion the setting are 1440×1080 and the clip fits that composition perfectly. When i bring the finished clip back to FCP it is the same dimensions as the original. I use the apple intermediate codec when i export from AE.

If you don’t want your footage being resized just keep the original size when you select the options on exporting. What Liam El Terrible is sugesting you is a good option.
