Yes, of course it can. There’s only 4% difference between 2K and 1080.

You can stick all the features you like into FCX, but if Apple are to regain credibility they have to start openly communicating with professional users.

October 16, 2011 at 9:45 pm in reply to: 7 after X – an emotional toll?

I haven’t gone back to FCP7 since swithching to CS5.5. I’ve used FCPX a few times for simple edits. Can’t say I got emotional about my choice of NLE – though I did kick the cat when I tried and failed to get an output from FCPX on my Grade 1 monitor…

[Herb Sevush] “But a kem could have 2 or more, and I often linked multiple moviolas together, both upright and flatbed. So what’s your point? do you think editors would have turned down a preview head on a steenbeck if it was possible?”

My point was a countenance to Rafael who seemed to think you need two screens on an edit system for it to be professional. Clearly, that’s not the case.

BTW some eight plate Steenbecks had two screens too.

[Rafael Amador] “For me that’s enough to reject FCPX.
A source and a program window is the minimum to consider a system as pro.
Even the times of the U-Matic LB we had two monitors.
    rafael”

My Steenbeck only had one screen. In those days we considered people who edited on U-Matic as amateurs. Funny that…

October 8, 2011 at 9:24 pm in reply to: FCPX or Not?

My opinion hasn’t changed at all. There’s a lot to like in FCPX, but I need more grown-up features for it to be my main in NLE.

More importantly, I need to trust that Apple is in this for the long haul. I need openness and proper communication, not the over zealous use of NDAs and the biased “opinion” of educators, bloggers and others with too much self-interest and not enough objectivity. The software can be fixed, I’m not sure about the attitude, it needs a change of culture at Apple, a shift in their corporate paradigm

September 24, 2011 at 8:47 am in reply to: I’ve figured out who these people are!!!

Richard, if it works for you go for it and don’t worry what grumpy, self-opinionated has-beens say on the internet.

I bought FCPX the minute it was released and like you I can see a lot of usefulness and some really cool stuff in FCPX. There’s no doubt it will be fun to use on certain jobs.

Equally, there are some things I’m not so convinced about and that will mean I use another NLE for those jobs (most jobs).

Furthermore, I can’t see too many facilities houses or production companies furnishing their edit suites with FCPX – at least not for a few years yet. It took the original FCP 4-5 years to gain a foothold in that sector and I don’t see it being anything different this time round.

The good news is that these NLEs are so cheap now that even the most parsimonious of editors should be able to afford at least two of the main players and it’s never been easier to find good help and education on how to get the best out of any of them.

Think of FCPX as a plug-in and run it alongside another NLE. I do, and it’s failings don’t annoy me quite so much anymore.

September 23, 2011 at 5:42 pm in reply to: lens for full portrait

[Alex Badila] “Witch lens is good to shoot, for a full portrait from a distance of 4m (13ft)? The person to shoot has 170-180m(6ft). I want to use with Nikon D5100. The lens: 18-55mm, 18-105mm, 55-200mm are good for full portrait?
    for ex.: https://www.google.ro/imgres?imgurl=https://mark.atwood.name/me-portrait-full...”

The Nikon D5100 has a DX sensor of 23.6 x 15.6 in size. At a distance of 4 meters a 30mm lens will give 2.08 meters on the vertical axis – assuming you are shooting 16×9.

My advice: use a 50mm lens and stand back a little more if you can.

    HTH.

This roles/stems malarky is bunkum. I used to go File>Export>OMF. What was so wrong with that?

[Gerry Fraiberg] The original document is 454 pages. I wonder what happened to 79 pages?

    Gerry”

Maybe they used a smaller font size or a larger page…
