[Bob Woodhead] “**gasp** …. he’s shallow DOF hater!!
(I wonder if he’d feel the same way if it was called perfunctory DOF?)”
No. Not a hater of shallow DOF. I use it all the time. It’s when people use it when deep DOF would be more appropriate. It’s lazy thinking, poor craftsmanship and shows a lack of skill.
Good word perfunctory – I think I might try and use that today…

I think Apple are on to something here, given the number of newbie filmmakers coming into the business, plus all the clients who think they can make films without hiring a pro.
With that in mind, I’ve just patented both star and box wipes, plus picture-in-picture, bleach by-pass, fake flares, unnecessary slider shots, bad use of shallow depth of field and a bunch of other “my mom bought me a camera” techniques.

[Neil Goodman] “The only thing holding me back from starting a real project with it, is the timeline.”
That’s one of the issues I still have, but I’ll give a go over the next few days and see if I can tame the beast…

September 23, 2012 at 9:17 pm in reply to: Premiere vs. FCPX – What’s best for slow motion/speed change[Paul Boone] “When I used FCPX for slow-mo, I first batch conformed all my clips from 60p to 24p using cinema tools. Should I still use Cinema Tools to conform first if I’m using Adobe? Is there anything in Adobe that will conform footage to 24p?”
No need to batch conform, you just control click on the footage from within PP and choose Modify/Interpret footage to change your frame rate. Simple.

[Bill Davis] “I think it’s becoming a new global force.”
It’s not becoming a global force, it already is one and has been for some time.
YouTube is old news. The debate has long since on moved on, it’s now about the power of social media and mobile communications, about the speed that harnessing these technologies can empower people and force real change on a global level. It’s not about Korean rappers or performing pets, it’s about Syria, Iran and revolution…

[Bill Davis] “And from 2008 to today it’s been another way.
That’s a pretty darn good definition of “new” in my book.”
We clearly have different books:)
It’s often said that a week is long time in politics, but For the twitter generation a week is an eternity, just ask the Kony2012 people…
For the record, YouTube started in 2005.
