November 17, 2012 at 12:55 amMaybe I should get a lawyer! They might want to come after me for all the times I used a page turn (1000s) in car spots, industrials and many other productions that I needed (or not) a tacky transition. Does this mean they are going to drive Abekas, and Ampex into bankruptcy for the A-51,53,57 Deveous, and ADO having that feature? Oh wait….. they’re already been bankrupt. Serves them right for stealing Apple’s invention.

November 17, 2012 at 1:06 amYes, ridiculous. But I think it’s far more indicative of the patent system then Apple being a huge dick. As Across 110th Street goes, “…doing what I have to do to survive…”

November 17, 2012 at 5:10 amAnd now we know the rest of the story (ala Paul Harvey). We will never get a save or save as… option in X because, and I quote, Apple owns “Consistent backup of electronic information.”

November 17, 2012 at 1:42 pmIn part, Apple does this to own it, but also to ward off lawsuits from others, if they don’t own it. Just more evidence that design patents (as opposed to technology or product patents) are simply bad for everyone.

November 17, 2012 at 3:07 pmWhy haven’t they patented an 80% nitrogen/ 20% oxygen breathable mixture, suitable for maintaining human life?

November 17, 2012 at 3:57 pmAnd while they’re at it, I believe Apple employees were using their brains to think creatively about technology before anyone else was – now doesn’t that deserve a patent? I for one don’t think that Apple has enough money – they have a right to protect their interests, no matter how damaging to the free marketplace that might be…

November 17, 2012 at 7:38 pmIf you were Apple, which position would you rather be in? Having the patent, or having the patent used against you?
It’s the system that they have to work within- and under those conditions, its better to be the one wielding the patent than not. Lord knows there’s more ridiculous ones out there that can be read SO broadly that anyone who’s made something that connects to the internet can be sued.
Apple pays too when it has to. One-click purchasing is owned by Amazon.

Nobody else in the whole world was thinking creatively about technology? Really? Nobody at Intel or Google or Facebook or Microsoft or HP or Samsung or Panasonic or Sony or IBM or Amazon or Adobe or Quantel or Autodesk … none of them were thinking creatively about technology? And so now you want Apple to take out a patent on “thinking creatively about technology” – well I’m sure it’s already in the works.

Feel free to donate as much as you want, it’s obviously a worthwhile cause.

If Amazon actually was first with “One-click purchasing” then, while it’s insane to give a patent on such a thing, at least they did invent it. I’ve been using page turns in video for 20 years, it’s been used in animation for at least 80 years, but now that it’s in an e-reader it’s somehow different? I know Apple didn’t invent this game, but they sure are playing it pretty hard. This madness has to stop.
