Can 1080p be up-scaled to 2k?

I have half an answer for you, there is software that does this – it mathematically creates the additional pixels needed to enlarge the image….unfortunately I can’t think of the name of the program but a simple Google search on upscaling video should find you the solution

If you are on a PC, get AVISynth.
Is free and has the best filters ever developed for up/downscaling.
If you are on a Mac you will find the same filters only in the old Apple SHAKE.
If you can access a KONA-3 go that way.

Hi Everyone,
Can someone help with the following. I am preparing DSLR footage for technicolor Digital Cinama Delivery. It was shot at 1920x1080p and material is supposed be at 1998×1080 which is better:
1. To scale up and crop top and bottom (21px)to that requirements
or
2. better to not scale and just crop to 1920×1038 to achieve that aspect ratio?

I am afraid that by scaling up to 1998×1080 I will loose quality.

Second Question:
Technicolor needs Interleaved DPX, my footage was shot 1920x1080p. “Interleaved” sound like interlaced? Can it be progressive. I don’t have any this kind of options on Adobe Premier.

Better not to scale, and just add blanking to fill.

Are you saying not to scale and leave at 1920x1080p then I guess I will have two black stripes on left and right
or you are saying not to scale and crop up and bottom to 1920x1038p?

Don’t scale and leave black on left and right side. I’ve done this many times for hd going to dpx or film print. This is by far the best way to handle it.
