  • now, where I know the solution, I changed the Format of the Import Batch XML, so the new files will be imported in the right way. I now try to figure out, how to edit my old clips in the Database. We are talking about ca. 10.000 Clips. So the Select and Replace Solution is great! But it will take a while until I am ready.

    What did I try:

    Worker

    I tried to edit the fields using Worker. Like this: {U4}{s/, /n/g}

This is what I got: RednBluenYello (for Red, Blue, Yellow) – fail

    Also using & #10; didn’t help

    CLI
Now I am about to edit fields with an bash script, that get the value of the Userfield. Replaces the commas using SED and wright the new values back. There are several disadvanteges in this solution. For example the problem with handling HTML Hexadecimal Codes for special characters (In Germany we have all this funny letters like ü,ö,ä). CLI give me something like Fu& #223;ball out. I have to convert it to “Fußball” to bring it back to the Database. And so on.

    Question
Is there a way to do it using Worker?
Is there a way to use utf-8 while handling with CLI or Worker?

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Bryson,

I have to study the Log file first. Meanwhile I did several tests. This is what I have observed:

    TEST 1
    – export an existing clip as an FCP 7 XML file
    – drop it in the watch folder for Worker
    – Configure Workerjob : File Job, Interpret Batch FIles: true
    – Result: the file is being imported. The Filed “Notes” was parsed in a wright way. All other fields are USER fields and the were remained empty.

    TEST 2
    – export an existing clip as an FCP Batch File
    – drop it in the watch folder for Worker
    – Configure Workerjob : File Job, Interpret Batch FIles: true
    – Result: the file is being imported as a text file. no Video was recognized. No metadata imported.

    TEST 3
    – make manually a CatDV XML Batch File with a text editor and give it the same name as the video clip
    – drop the viodeoclip and the XML file in the watch folder for Worker
    – Configure Workerjob : File Job, Interpret Batch FIles: true
    – Result: the file is being imported. All Metadata were parsed in a wright way. All Metadata war there.
    – Success

    TEST 4
    – same CatDV XML Batch File as in Test 3. Videoclip stored in another directory. The Path is mentioned in the XML under MEDIAPATH
    – drop the XML file in the watch folder for Worker
    – Configure Workerjob : Batch Job, Interpret Batch FIles: true
    – Result: the file is being imported as a video file. No metadata imported

Worker can recognize the Metadata only if I process a File Job and use the CatDV XML File as a sidecar file. Both must be in the same directory and have the same names. Good to know, it works this way, but not good for my workflow.

I contacted the support of Squarebox and I hope to get a solution as soon as possible since I purchased another Worker Instance a couple of days ago.

  • so you import the jpeg as an extra asset in to the catalog? this is an interesting, but also a kind of roundabout way ))

@Squarebox: Please make it on your list for the next release 😉

I think now, when more and more users want to link the database with the Webclient or any other Web Interface, it becomes very important to have a better control about the assets, that will be used for the Web presentation. Poster, Title and Keywords are the most often used assets of a videoclip to deliver to any web video platform.

  • Thank you!

I would wish, that the Backend and the Frontend of CatDV would be linked in a better way. There are many functions in CatDV Pro, that are great, but that I cannot access in the Backend using Worker. Clip Lists, many Datafields, Sequences and many others.

I hope Squarebox will force the interaction between the CatDV Pro and Worker consequent in the future.

    Kind Regards

    Dear Jeff,

I would like to know more about the solution with fordela. Is it possible to mail or to chat with you? How can I contact you?

Maybe you could contact me through LinkedIn: https://goo.gl/CPSnl

  • Thank you guys. This are very useful recommendations.

@Rolf: Maybe you should think about some kind of “Zen of CatDV”. 10 or 20 guiding principles that could be found in the manual. That would make it easier for every beginner to make a good setup and to use your product in a proper way. Advanced users would consult professionals anyway.

  • Hi,

I want worker to query for clips based on a clip list and convert them in a particular format. Clip list is a great Tool for our editors to search for a footage and to collect it in an easy Drag&Drop way for a later edit. The best thing on a clip list is that, there is no danger, that the original clip can be moved. That can happens, if I use Catalogs. And you know… we have editors that just still cannot understand the difference between move and copy to another catalog 🙂

  • I’ve also informed Telestream about my problem. And after several mails I became post, that makes me hope 🙂

    “Leonid,

We have made some progress with your issue. We beleive it will be resolved in an upcoming release. Our estimate is June/July timeframe. We believe the upcoming 6.3 release should resolve this issue.

Thank you for your understanding and your efforts.”

  • Hi Brad,

I’m still wondering how you got the clip running on your system. I tried all possible settings in Episode.

    My System:

    Mac OS 10.6.8
Quick Time Player (Version 10.0 (131))
Quick Time Player (Version 7.6.6 (1709))
    CatDV Pro 9.0.6
    Java SE 6 1.6.0_29-b11-402
    Telestream Episode 6.2.2.9 (3412)

Can you give me a Tip?

When I import the Clip in a Catalog, CatDV says:

Import Notes: Movie contains invalid time values

I added a new testfile in attachment. 3862_testversion6.2.2.93412h264mp41mbit16x9.mp4.zip

I now use the ffmpeg to convert Clips into mp4. But it makes my Workflow complicated and slow.
But maybe Squarebox can somehow find the way to use that files.

    Regards
    Leo
