Have you checked to make sure that the source/record area is not hanging off the edge or being touched by another window? Go to the Windows menu and select Home. That will place the source/record back to it’s default.

I have had the same issue. The terrible look does not exist once I output my timeline. Test if that is the case for you as well by exporting a small portion of your timeline. I am willing to bet that it looks fine once you send it out. There is something about screen resolution, the graphics card and Avid only on some Macs, mine included. Good luck.

He should be fine. What the HD card provides is the ability to capture HD material over an SDI connection using the DNxHD resolutions. These CODECS allow you to edit with HD material with minimal quality loss but using barely more storage space than SD footage. With the set-up suggested by the reseller he can still edit HD if he wants. He’ll have to capture the HD over firewire and not be able to take advantage of the DNxHD CODEC space saving. DVCProHD and HDV are both native capture resolutions available over firewire.

As for wanting to capture SD material over component signal he can do that with the Mojo and the Avid component cable. Make sure the resller provides an audio bump box to handle the whole issue of the audio connectors on the Mojo and the XLR connectors on the Beta or other high end deck.

Are you using Xpress Pro or Media Composer? If you are using Media Composer you can use Paint and draw three different circles as well as draw a separate shape around the background to darken it.

Your main issue will be selecting how you want to format your media drive that you want to move back and forth. If you format HFS on your Mac he will need to have MacDrive on his PC to be able to see the drive. This is most likely the best route to take. If you format it Fat32 so that both systems can read and write to it you have to worry about the 2GB file limit and some say stability issues. If you have an NTFS drive the Mac can read it but not write to it so you’ll have to move the media to a suitable drive for the Mac. Other than the drive format issue, there should be no real obstacles. I move back and forth between Mac and PC frequently.

Also, I have three Mac systems with both FCP Studio and Avid on them and do not have any problems with them living in the same place. I did run using Bootcamp before the software was ready for Intel Macs and it worked fine once I got the graphics card properly configured. So, you have options and any choice you make should be ok.

Your 320 LVD’s are plenty fast enough. You ask is it a networking issue. How are the systems networked? Are they sharing additional storage outside the four local LVD’s? Or are they just on a local network to move graphics around? Are they all PC’s? Have they all been calibrated according to the Read Me file as far as settings for Power, NVidia card, ect?

I ask these questions because I am running MC on various PC’s and Mac systems with different types of media drives on each system and not experiencing this type of problem. I suspect a settings issue.

Does the problem still exist if you pull the position bar back a shot or two and then hit play? The system functions best and gives you more streams of realtime playback when you give it a few seconds to load the info into the buffer by starting playback ahead of the effect composite. Also, what type of drives are you using? Are you getting yellow, blue or red lines at the bottom of the timeline? Is this only happening when you have an effect?

15:1s, 10:1, 20:1 are all in MC and available in a Meridien system.

If the Meridien system did not have the DV option then it will not be able to read DV25 media. You can however capture on your system at DV25 and then transcode the media to 15:1 or 1:1 which the Meridien will read. As long as you are the one that will do the final output, you can take the sequence from the Meridien and select relink and have it set to relink to the DV25 media on your system and it should work fine. This should be a workable situation. Please remember that when going backwards there may be a few compatibility issues (ie from Xpress 5.7 to MC 11.) There are not supposed to be issues when you go up, but there can be when you go back. Good luck.

Many people set their Mac up to be dual boot and run Avid on one boot partition and FCP on the other. You do not have to go to this extreme but it makes it easier to keep up with software updates for the OS and Pro Apps on the FCP side.

I have Final Cut Studio and Avid on my Macs. I use Avid as my primary edit tool so I didn’t create a dual boot set-up. I just have to be diligent about not updating my software before Avid is ready.

As for deck control, there is a Keyspan controller but you have to make sure you get the right version. If you do a search on the Avid forum, it was covered in great detail as to which one works correctly.
