Am going to be working on a project that I will be digitizing at DV25 into a new Xpress Pro 5.7… wanting to digitize onto a FW drive, duplicate footage and project, and send a copy to the other post house so they can work with the same project/media that I am. Wondering if I capture in DV25 codec if the other system (Media composer) will be able to read the footage if they don’t have that codec… if not, what codec should I digitize at so it will like the footage when relinking at the other end…

Or alternatively can they download different codecs to digitize to? Or can I download other codecs?

How old? I doubt you’ll get you footage into a Meridian based system.

However I have successfully offlined on an XPress (5.2) and brought the project into a Meridian system (12.0) and re-digitized the tapes.

You can get there, but it may not be path you wanted to take…

If the Meridien system did not have the DV option then it will not be able to read DV25 media. You can however capture on your system at DV25 and then transcode the media to 15:1 or 1:1 which the Meridien will read. As long as you are the one that will do the final output, you can take the sequence from the Meridien and select relink and have it set to relink to the DV25 media on your system and it should work fine. This should be a workable situation. Please remember that when going backwards there may be a few compatibility issues (ie from Xpress 5.7 to MC 11.) There are not supposed to be issues when you go up, but there can be when you go back. Good luck.

If I upgrade to Media composer from Xpress which offline resolutions will I have access to… and will they all be easily read by a meridian based composer?

Just found out that the other system they will be working with is a Media Composer Adrenaline v2.6… I will be cutting on an Xpress Pro v 5.7… does that mean that they should have the DV25 codec and be able to read and relink to my project no problems?

15:1s, 10:1, 20:1 are all in MC and available in a Meridien system.
