FSD refers to Full Scale Digital. According to Wikipedia it is “The maximum amplitude a digital system can represent.” They go on to say “Once a signal has reached full scale all headroom has been utilized, and any further increase in gain results in an error known as clipping.” I would imagine that most decks and small mixers would conform to the 18dbu FSD specification. If you hear distortions on peaks then you can try the 24dbu FSD setting.

I installed the Io software, firmware and control panel last night. All was well until I tried to capture from my DSR-1500A and UVW-1800 via RS422; no VTR communication. Also a preset I made yesterday disappeared. I reverted to the previous firmware and device control returned. I’m running OS 10.3.9 and FCP 4.5. I may try again after I install Tiger and FCP 5.

I would go with Oliver’s a) use a deck with “add set-up” if that is an option in the DSR45’s setup menu. Isaac, if there is an “add setup” for the DSR45 please let the forum know for future reference.

You should consider cappturing your footage with setup at 7.5 IRE. Check your settings on the DSR 45 to see if there is a menu item which allows you to “add setup” to the deck’s output. If you add setup then everything will be at 7.5 IRE and you shouldn’t have any trouble with your effects and renders.Good luck,

That is correct. The proc amp controls are not available using Io or LA. The control panel that AJA is working on is supposed to have those adjustments when the full release version is available. For now you need to control those setting from your Beta SP deck, or use the proc amp filter after your capture (I also like the 3 way color correction filter).Lee

Will all the DV media need to copied from the firewire drive to Raid drives in order for it to be output to digibeta?
No, You are still playing DV video, the Io simply transcodes it to SDI.
My guess is the sequence can be put onto digibeta from the original DV source, but it will be DV quality rather than 10-bit quality. But I very well could be wrong about this.
You are right about this. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear 🙂 Your DV video will still be DV quality. The good new is it won’t be any worse than the original captured DV quality (which I think is quite good for acquisition).

I avoided uprezing on FCP, until I had to, and then I picked a project that was already put to bed. While not as elegant as Avid or Media 100 it does work and I’m fairly comfortable with it now. Aja support is very responsive. Good luck.

I tried the same thing and I believe the bottom line is that you have to use the stock Aja to Photo Jpeg preset. I’ve settled on DV resolution for offline. 13 GB per hour is reasonable for my available storage (1.75 TB) and you don’t have to look at pixelated video. BTW have you tried the Media Manager for creating an offline version for recapture. I suggest you download Larry Jordan’s excellent Tutorial and follow it step by step https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/basic_onlining_jordan.html. The media manager is confusing sticky wicket, but if you follow the steps it works well enough.
