I use a Behringher Eurorack UB1204 Pro (8 balanced inputs for under $150.00 and very good quality). My DVCam deck goes into inputs 1 & 2, Betacam 3 & 4, Io analog out 5 & 6, Mac audio out 7 & 8. The mixer’s control room feed goes to a Roland MA-6 powered speaker system (discontinued). Other outs on the Behringer feed the Betacam, Tabletop DVD Recorder, VHS, etc. This is economical and works very well for me. In the future I will probably upgrade the Roland speakers.

In the DV NTSC Easy Setup check the capture settings to confirm that it’s set for DV. Perhaps someone edited the settings. You can also check the capture settings tab in the Log and Capture window to be sure Device Control is Firewire NTSC and Capture Input is DV NTSC 48Khz.Lee

One worlflow is to capture the entire tape and then use the Subclip function (mark in/out then CMD+U) to break the clip into subclips. If your capturing DV then you can use the Detect DV Start/Stop function (in the Mark Menu) to automatically add markers where ever the camera stopped and started. After that you can convert the markers into sublips. See the manual or help file for more details.

I checked the specs at JVC’s site and insert/assemble edit are listed as features. It’s possible that FCP doesn’t play well with it. I would contact JVC.

I don’t think the DSR 25 can assemble or insert edit. That is the difference between it and more expensive models such as the DSR 1500.

There are audio filters in the effects tab, both FCP and Apple for limiting and compressing the audio. I would be judicious in their application.

If you bought from ProMax they have 60 or 90 days tech support (I can’t remember which). If they integrated it and tested it then they should help you with your problem. They were prompt with assistance when I bought my system last year.

While Compressor can encode 5.1 audio, you can’t create a 5.1 soundtrack in FCP. You’ll need a seperate application to create a 5.1 mix such as Dolby Media Producer https://www.dolby.com/professional/pro_audio_engineering/DMP_01.html
I’ll bet it’s expensive. -
Create a new sequence. Select all of the images (clips) in the old sequence. Select the new sequence in the Canvas window. Drag all of the clips from the old sequence to the Canvas and choose Overwrite or Insert with Transition. Your default transition will be added to every clip.
