i’m admittedly not so good at audio.

what i need for a large percentage of the edits i do, is for the audio not to exceed -10db as per the client. inevitably things seem to go over here and there.

is there a simple plugin where i can tell the audio – do not go over -10, pull it down below that???

There are audio filters in the effects tab, both FCP and Apple for limiting and compressing the audio. I would be judicious in their application.

The solution you want can be found in this article:
    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/basic_audio_filter_tutoria.html

Scroll down to “Issue #2 – Compression Filter” and read that. I highly suggest you read the entire article, though, as well as some of the other articles on that page. The main list is here:
    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/fcp_homepage_index.html

Search that page for “Audio” and you’ll find a bunch of articles. Audio is pretty tricky and the more you learn about it, the better. I’ve pointed out the answer to your question, but if you just read that and ignore the rest I can’t promise you that it will work the way you want. Spend some time reading more so that you start to understand the concepts behind the hint. Good luck!
