  • Assemble Edit FCP&SonyDSR25- I need help to write timecode from fcp timeline to DVCAM tape

I have a Sony DSR-25 DVCAM recorder which should be able to handle an Assemble edit. It seems the deck is doing what it should be doing, but Final Cut Pro isn’t. Is anybody familiar with this process who can help me to understand what to do to get this to work?

I originally wanted to write timecode from Final Cut Pro to DVCAM as I recorded my timeline to tape. When that didn’t work and I went over the issues, I think FCP requires an RS-422 controller to handle this process, which I don’t have. So instead, I striped the DVCAM tape with preset timecode internally using the SONY deck, and then tried to perform an Insert edit in FCP. As soon as FCP hits the in point on the tape, it writes an unrelated timecode to the tape, and pauses itself, not completing the task. I don’t understand what’s going on with this…anybody?

I don’t think the DSR 25 can assemble or insert edit. That is the difference between it and more expensive models such as the DSR 1500.

That’s because you have the deck set to accept external TC. It should be set to internal.
