3 great ideas, and all work!

I’ve already tried using compressor which is very easy and will work well.

    Thanks everyone!

September 30, 2010 at 7:38 pm in reply to: Sorenson Watch folders

I am using version 6.5 with Snow Leopard and our media is on a Promax media server. We have 3 mac pro workstations, and one imac using the common media.

The questions I have are basic software operation questions after viewing the video tutorial and creating a watch folder that worked upon initial setup.

If one has closed and reopened sorenson after creating a watch folder, how do you get it to start watching again?

    Should it automatically start?

    Thanks

    thanks!

By same do you mean 1920 = square pixels and 1440 are rectangular?

How exactly does it all work out in the end? The project looks like it would have to stretch and distort it?

    Thanks

April 30, 2010 at 6:51 pm in reply to: printing to tape via firewire to Sony DVCam decks

Does it help to know they work just fine with Sony Vegas all versions? We’ve used Vegas for years and just migrated to FCP. What is odd is that the cheapest/oldest deck is the only one that works.

April 15, 2010 at 8:17 pm in reply to: Print to tape on Sony DSR DVCAM decks

Correction. The DSR 45 deck is recording video from FCP using the print to video tool, but the DSR 45 is not putting down TIMECODE which is why we didn’t think it was recording.

So the question now is WHY NO TIMECODE on the DSR 45, but has TC with the DSR-11?

    Help!

I just checked another computer with a Sony DSR 45 attached and that firewire window correctly identified the deck as a “DSR-45”, yet we haven’t successfully printed to tape with that one either.
I can’t check the DSR 11 yet as it’s attached to a PC right now. LW

    Doug,

Thanks for the tip! Our vendor didn’t suggest that one. By the way, we are very new to FCP so everything has changed in our workflow which can be daunting when hit with it all at once.

So About this mac/ more info/ It says built in hub and below it says “unknown device”. This is my DSR 20 deck

Are there drivers to be installed? What does it take to have it recognize the device?

    Thanks!

We are using a single firewire cable for everything. Each deck only has one firewire port.
I hadn’t thought about separate ports. Is this common?

What is crazy is that our cheapest/oldest deck is the only one that both captures and prints.

    April 6, 2010 at 7:08 pm in reply to: 4.1.1 versus 4.2.2

Actually, what is really driving this is how much difference will the end result be on Time Warner, Dish Network and Direct TV?

If the signal path starts at 50mbps in XDCam 4:2:2 versus 25mbps in DVCam 4:1:1 then edited in FCP then we make station masters in DVCam or Betacam SP will it stay cleaner through the heavy compression it receives at TW, DN, and DTV?

And finally, what will we see if we shoot in 720P?

Ours is a talk show with not a lot of action.

    Thanks
