I’m Glad toggling the eyeballs on and off helped.
But just to be clear, what one usually discovers is that turning the eyeballs back on reveals that one track has a problem. Then you narrow it down to one clip and you’ve isolated a corrupted media file, effect or whatever.
If I hear you correctly, you turned all tracks back on and it worked like it hadn’t before. That sounds like some gremlin in the timeline got cleared by just poking around.

Will it play if your turn off all the eyeballs and mute all the channels? If it plays then, turn them back on one by one. Next try to isolate it by marking in and out on a small section of the timeline and do “play in to out”.

There’s a good chance if you properly gen-locked the Terenex, the source (VTR?) and the capturing device, the delay would hold consistent.

Use the clip mixer, not the track mixer. No need to set the mode. Just pan 1 to the left and 2 to the right.

Thanks! I looked again and found you are quite right. I had looked in Preferences/Auto Save, however the choice is in Project Settings/Scratch Disks. And good to see that once set the setting sticks through starting a new project. Way to go!

Premiere won’t allow setting the location for auto-saves to a drive other than the project drive. Seems like a missed opportunity to provide project backup in addition to version backup. Any thoughts on why it’s not offered?

Your very thorough testing and explanation of your initial problem caught my attention and made me interested in following it to the end.
Thank you for the full report on the bizarre cause. Seems like a pretty innocent action to cause a crash. I hope it will get some attention.

It’s not that Premiere can’t. In Adobe’s defense, It’s got a preference you can set to convert Stereo to Dual Mono on import or tape capture. And it’s got a way to convert clips from Stereo to Dual Mono in the bin. However not everyone anticipates the need, or an editor inherits a stringout from someone else, and needs a way to drop one channel out of sequence clips that are stereo. As it turns out there are a few ways to do that, too (tho’ a little hard to find).
True, the Audio Tracks preference defaults to ingesting Stereo as Stereo. Maybe your argument is that that the factory default should be convert to dual mono. For most of the work I do, that would work out best for me too.
But it’s a tough call for Adobe, to make a default be to convert one valid workflow to another. People do record in stereo intentionally and expect to keep it that way.

For me match frame is not working on Subclips.
