  • Project file and all auto-saves missing

    Hello,

I am completely stumped. I’ve got CS5 on Mac OS X. On Monday morning I opened up Premiere to continue working on a project I last touched a week ago. The start-up prompt offered me 3 recent projects instead of the usual 4. The one that was missing was the one I needed to work on. The file was also gone from the folder where all my .prproj files are stored. The auto-save folder had no saves for that filename. I’ve looked through backups, all external drives where the project might have accidentally been stored, and it’s as if every trace of the entire project has simply vanished. All the video files are intact, just the premiere pro file is missing.

Does anyone have a clue as to what might have happened? I’m not afraid to admit to a certain amount of user error if that’s the case, but in this case I would had to have spent a lot of time and thought to systematically wiping out all traces and backups of this file. The work can be replicated, but I’m terrified this might happen again. Any wild ideas?

    cheers,
    KT

Was the project stored on an internal drive or external? If external, could the drive have been undocked/redocked incorrectly?

Premiere won’t allow setting the location for auto-saves to a drive other than the project drive. Seems like a missed opportunity to provide project backup in addition to version backup. Any thoughts on why it’s not offered?

Premiere Pro CC allows you to choose where you want your Auto Saves to store.

Thanks! I looked again and found you are quite right. I had looked in Preferences/Auto Save, however the choice is in Project Settings/Scratch Disks. And good to see that once set the setting sticks through starting a new project. Way to go!

It was on my computer’s hard drive.

Sorry about the late reply – as you might imagine I was in panic to reproduce the lost work when I realized I couldn’t find it. Still, it would be interesting to find out what happened, so that lightning doesn’t strike twice.

Ok, same shit happened to me lately, only instead of project file only missing, the whole damn project folder disappeared including audio and video files and backup project files. Can anyone explain to me what happened and how to fix this? Cuz at this point I wanna do something really painful to my mac.

Same thing happening to me! Really need to figure out what happened. Searched the entire comp and found no trace of the project files.

recently happened to me twice—on 2 different machines; on 2 different drives while running Premiere 2014. so it definitely looks like a Premiere issue. Best thing to do at this point is save projects to the cloud.

    Hi Latisha,
same thing happened to me an hour ago. Did you find a solution to this?
