That new 6 interface looks great! Love that I can mix and edit in surround which is why I keep using Sony Vegas for indie features. But it’s time to look at Avid again – after 12 years in other apps including FCP since ver.1 I’m liking the “new” Avid.
64bit, finessed interface and no loss of features or editing paradigm – all Apple had to do with the new version but noooo…

Yeah good luck – I recently attempted to build a Hackintosh since I was upgrading one of my Win7 workstations anyway – what a disaster – I’ve built dozena of workstations over the years so am pretty comfy with hardward, installs etc. and followed all the knowns steps to the T with only Hackintosh “approved” parts and still couldn’t get it working properly – finally gave up and tried to enjoy what was left of the 3 day 4th weekend. 🙁
What I don’t get about all your switchers and new Apple haters is why you don’t put your money where your mouth is? If you’re really gonna switch to PPro why not SWITCH! Win7 64bit is clean, stabile and FAST and runs the Adobe stuff way faster than Mac! Plus you can pick up a CUDA qualified video card for half what you’d pay on the Apple store. I just bought a GTX570 and can run PPro 5.5 at full res on 1080p footage with multiple effects applied.
I guess I’m different than most out there – I just see everything as tools to use and not a Mac vs. PC thing. I’ve used FCP since version 1, yet cut my last feature film on Sony Vegas 10 because it was the 1st 64bit NLE that worked and the only NLE that allowed a pro 5.1 mix while I was editing!! Now planning on cutting my next trailer on FCPX just to try it out and hoping to do it on a new 27″ iMac.

Had no prob syncing H4N and Canon footage here but totally agree that the auto color thing has to show up in the controls so you can see what it did and make adjustments if needed – just lame that it wouldn’t show up in the color board.
Agree that the whole new paradigm is not better – just different. At least in Sony Vegas I can switch the magnetic timeline on and off as needed and yet still have dedicated audio and video tracks which I can name and send to whatever bus I want – that’s innovation in a good way.
At the core – this is a cool app that has huge potential and is very fast – young people are gonna start here and learn to use it in their sleep and in 5 years gonna hit the pro world like those guys on the Xerox commercial and say “look… it’s the elder… he who speaks of track naming, videotape and EDL’s”.

Agreed – this is the same way FCP 7 works except you got to set your in/out on the FCP timeline – the whole project is always there in the preview window and in Compressor – not just the in/out portion.

You can download a fully functional 5.5 version which is much better. But a warning to all you “switchers” – the color tools is PPro, especially their 3-way and Fast correctors, are horrible and easily the worst of any NLE out there. If you’re really gonna try to do pro work in PPro you’ll want Colorista II and Looks 2 and forget about the Adobe stuff.

Yeah I get the 32-bit thing – everyone claims that PPro, Vegas, Magic Bullet, Color, After Effects etc. but there is a difference to the math somehow, not a programmer or engineer here but there is a finesse here I can’t get with these other programs.

Yeah we’ve kinda been joking about the color board, at $299 FCPX may be the best color timing tool for the money. You really don’t need 3rd party plug-ins like Looks or Colorista 2 anymore and it’s realtime.
Whatever they did with the Colorsync etc it’s just so pristine and much like Resolve in the purity of how color and masks are applied – you can really finesse DSLR footage like nothing I’ve ever used and I’ve timed 2 features in Color.
An iPad app with the color board would be fun!
