Couldn’t get it to single out one effect – but it worked well copying color timing from clip to another. The new color tool by the way, blows away the 3-Way corrector and we were able to stack multiple color effects, masks, vignettes etc – which are far better in quality than Color’s, and run them in realtime!

Totally agree with Tom and Andrew here – I think it’s over and time to move on. Apple is now a cool consumer products company and not a professional hardware/software company. The crazy thing is they actually achieved a lot when they were Apple Computer – Emmys, Oscars etc all created on their great hardware and software, but those days are numbered and they dont care, they’re bigger than ever and don’t need us anymore.
But I was thinking though, let’s say Apple comes out next week with a major update that adds, multicam and edl import export, and SAN support, would it matter? Do I really want to edit this way? Do I want to be tagging every clip that comes in? Do I want my app telling me a shot is a close-up when actually it’s a dolly out that ends in a master? Do I want to use the skimmer or the goofy iMovie select (in/out) tool or never be able to have specific tracks for specific types of files like dialog, efx and music?
Apple has tried to re-invent something that really didn’t need re-inventing and I don’t care how many features that add in – the new paradigm is NOT better than the old paradigm and the person who greenlit this “new” direction needs to be fired.

Join the club – my 2 workstations having similar crashes in 10 – I’ve probably sent over 50 crash reports to Sony from both machines – really need ver.10B to come out soon!!! Also thought it was NewBlue and uninstalled to no avail. Even project with no 3rd party plug-ins crashes like crazy.

Only issue I’ve had is copying between 32bit and 64bit versions – has to be same to work for me.

What kind of storage are you using? Have you tried moving files to different drive and re-linking?

If you’re happy with the real-time performance of cutting native Canon footage in CS5 then there’s no reason to convert first. You can do color timing on the original footage in Premiere or open your finished cut in After Effects and use Color Finesse. Or cut your show first and render it to a better codec like Avid DNxHD (free on the Avid site) which is similar to ProRES and color time that. Lots of options and no you don’t need FCP.
That said, all this buzz about switching from FCP to CS5 is just crazy. Yeah CS5 is great and has nice integration between apps, but as far as NLE’s go and true professional editing tools, Premiere is seriously lacking in features as compared to NLE’s like FCP or Avid. This doesn’t mean that you can’t do pro work with Premiere and if that’s all you’ve ever you used you may never miss the tools I’m talking about, but there is a significant lack of editing features, some even basic, in Premiere Pro.

Yeah big budget shows will actually replace every lamp in every fixture if they have to to get the temp right. Ahhhh to have time and money…
As far as color timing in post – have you tried Colorista II from Red Giant? It has the best auto color tool I’ve ever used inside of an NLE. Get’s my 7D problem footage to a very clean neutral state painlessly. Then I can color as I want for that scene.

I’m not arguing with you here at all – the practice of not paying interns and scumbag Producer’s crewing their movies with unpaid workers will continue in Hollywood forever.

You are correct Noah – anyone answering a craigslist ad to crew a show for just meals and a copy know what there getting into – but they’re not really interns but as you said “volunteers”.
Regardless of pay – if you ask someone to be somewhere at a certain time to performs certain duties that would be considered work – they are technically your employee and there could be tax/legal obligations if someone wanted to enforce it. They are not independent contractors as many in Hollywood assume…
