Hi Joel,
Could you post a link to a video that has been compressed using Flix? I’m been curious about it.
Thanks

MP-4 should work. The Sony AVC codec. WMV would work too, but if you crank the quality slider up to high, it gives you pretty big files. Try rendering at 70% and see if it knocks the size down. Mp4 is the YouTube standard.

There are no presets available. The best thing to do is open your iris all the way. Boost your gain as far as it will go, without it becoming too grainy. Like I said I use +6, but you can try going a little higher if you want. Use your shutter control for adjusting to changing light situations. The custom settings are mainly used for picture adjustments and not for light control. When you go to edit, you can use color curves to further boost light levels and balance out things a bit. Make sure you stay steady on a tripod if you are shooting low light scenes and/or move slowly, unless you like tracers and trippy effects. I would also rig up a light to use on your camera. Something that is not too bright. Just enough to light up faces that are close to you. Maybe something with a dimmer for adjusting to certain scenes. Hope this helps a bit.

December 7, 2009 at 11:41 pm in reply to: can I uninstal and reinstal vegas without losing my project files? It won’t effect your project files. Just to be safe, copy them to another source outside of your computer. Like online, or an external. What version of Vegas are you using? What’s happening with your files? Are you saying your program is crashing? A re-install might not cure the problem. I’ve had issues like what you are referring to, but it had to do with various types of video formats in one timeline, which kept crashing things.

Hi Lorenzo,
I always shoot manually at night with my gain at +6, with the iris wide open and use the shutter wheel to adjust to different lighting. Of coarse keep your filters set to off. Those are only for daytime use. Using the night preset is going to end up turning your image grainy. You can program the presets, but that’s a little complicated. As far as getting rid of the bass over modulation. The on-board mic isn’t suited for loud music. Even when I’ve used my shotgun mic, it sounded bad. What you may want to do to capture audience sound is use a mic suited for loud noises. I’ve even used a wireless mic for this. I’ve been very disappointed while shooting live shows, because your levels appear to be fine, but when you get home, it’s all muddy and not usable. Invest in a wireless mic and get an attachment to plug into the mixing board and you will get a great sound.

Thanks guys. Edward, I tried opening an account on your site and it kept rejecting my email. Maybe I’ll give it another go. The Vasst site is good. Thanks for cuing me in on it Terry.

Hi, from my experience, you can open your project with the audio and your project that you are nesting it in at the same time. If you want to adjust the audio, do it in the non-nested project and hit save. It should then refresh in your project with the new change you made.

November 20, 2009 at 10:43 pm in reply to: Can you buy sony vegas project templates?I think watching some tutorials on line would help, if you have the high speed connection. You can create a project template and continue to build upon it as you go. Once you have something you like, save it that way and go back and use it every time. YouTube has been my main source for Sony Vegas material. I can’t comment on the template files, because I’ve not worked with them before. Good luck!

These are called lower-thirds. You can build your own using Vegas Pro or you can download Vegas Production Assistant from the Sony Creative Website and use their 30 day trial program, which includes a lower-thirds generator. It comes with a few nifty ones that look decent. You should learn to composite your own though. One of the easiest ways is to grab a generated media gradient (black to transparent) and drop it over your interview. Then you’d go into the resize/crop tool which you’d need to use to crop the gradient media down to size. Then you’d lay a text over that on a new track above it. Size your text to fit the cropped gradient or whichever media you use. This might be to much to follow. I’d suggest google lower-thirds tutorial and see what happens. Good luck.
