March 30, 2010 at 4:18 pm in reply to: How long would it take to complete a 30 min Blu-ray project? Thanks Jerry for your response. I’m considering getting the burner and offering the service. I guess I’ll do a search to see how much others are charging for this. I’m also wondering how easy is it to print a label on the disk. I’ll search that too.

I\’m having the same problem with 6g clip. Part of the audio is there in Vegas and the other is not. It plays in media player fine. I\’ve had this happen before. I can\’t remember how I fixed it though.

December 22, 2009 at 7:44 pm in reply to: DVDA Masking Issues (with video example)Thanks Jeremy for your response. I struggled all day yesterday trying to figure out what was up. After a good nights sleep and some meditative thinking, I found out what was wrong. USER ERROR! I had the project setting wrong. There are 2 settings for NTSC widescreen format and I had the wrong one, go figure. All I did was change the setting to 720×480 widescreen and it fixed it! 704×480 widescreen was the other setting that threw it all off. I’m glad that’s settled, because I really didn’t want to try and find another alternative. There really isn’t much out there for pc software that is as flexible. Thanks again.

Thank you! Encore doesn’t look like it’s a stand alone application, without buying Premier Pro. TMPGEnc Authoring looks promising though.

Try finding out what kind of files you are using and post the info, so people can get a better understanding of what you’re using. I’d suggest rendering the files to .m2t if they are HD.

Try installing as administrator. Right click & run as administrator on the drop down box.

You should try the MP4 again. Capture the video to MP4 and take it into Vegas. Match project settings by going into project properties. When you render the video out to MP4, use the AVC Sony MP4 codec, the one that is internet ready at 720, 30p, 6mbs. Click on stretch video output also. There should be no downgrading in the HD quality if your project settings are matched to your source. I hope you get it figured out. I’m pretty much useless at this point, since I can’t be there to see what you’re doing. Good luck!

December 12, 2009 at 3:20 pm in reply to: Vegas Pro 9.0 vs FCP if starting from scratchI almost forgot about the audio prerendering. That in itself has killed the vibe for me countless times. Yes FCP is a nice editor, with some really good features. I really like how you can crop and resize within the same window, without opening up another, but they make the keyframes so dang microscopic, it’s tedious to perform simple things, like crops and movement. One thing that Vegas doesn’t have is the option to copy and past selective effects, including speed changes, crops and so on. You can copy and paste attributes, which is nice, but not practical if you have a bunch of effects that you don’t want to paste along with it. All in all, I think they’re both pretty good, but for me Vegas satisfies me, where FCP has frustrated me and left me totally ticked off, not to mention embarrassed. Working on an hour long project and having to rerender the entire timeline because you tweaked the audio is just plain ridiculous. Now I remember why I didn’t go with Final Cut.

I’m running a 64 bit Vista system and am able to edit on both 32bit and 64bit Vegas, no problem. While I’ve ran both setups, I can’t seem to tell the difference between the two as far as speed. Some say 64bit renders faster, but I haven’t noticed. Actually my older XP 32bit renders faster, why I’m not sure. So if you do have a bunch of plugins, use the 32bit Vegas. It works fine and does the same thing. You won’t have the extended memory for dynamic ram preview, that’s the only drawback that I’m aware of. You can push the 32bit version up to 1000mb for DRP which is enough for me, but it’s all about the user.

What is the bit rate of your source files? Do they play fine in windows media player? Can you play them in the Vegas timeline ok, without having problems? I know what you are going through. I’ve had similar problems, but have learned to “work around” like it’s called. I don’t think you have gone wrong with your choice of machine and program. I’ve worked with many editing systems and they all have issues. This is one of those and it basically comes down to the numbers. Do you have the option to change your bit rate setting output, on your game console? If so, try augmenting that and see if it helps.
The reason why you got a letter boxed output render isn’t because of the bit rate you used, but the project settings didn’t match your video render settings. You can output 2mb per second files in HD and still preserve the aspect ratio. I think you said you matched the project settings to the source, so probably not an issue there. I know your frustration. A workaround you could try would be place your files on the timeline without doing any editing and render it as an .M2T, which is a HD mpeg format. If you can do that you’ll end up with a clip that’s probably around 2 gigs. If you get that far, you should have no problem editing and rendering the video. I’d just keep experimenting though, find whatever works and stick to it. I wouldn’t settle on a lower quality though. Good luck to you and I hope some one else with more knowledge to shed on this can help shed some light. Take care, and BREATH! 🙂
