    Hi Martin,

Try a test capture and see if the footage shows when you have the clip in the computer. If it does, then you might have to live without the capture preview for this project. Use your camera for previewing.

    Thanks Terry,

That looks like a pretty good program. I like the alien. So this works well with Vegas?

Plus you have track 1 muted. Uncheck the circle with the slash in it.

Hello, the reason is because you have track 2 on solo. Uncheck the exclamation mark and you should be fine.

  • The source media consists of all HDV footage. Some are 60i .veg projects, while others are 30F(Canon XH-A1). I guess I could do what you suggest, but I was hoping to avoid the long re-rendering of every project. I think I’ll do a little experimenting to see which files cause the problem, while I continue to add them one by one. Maybe that will show something. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

  • Any possibility that your pixel format is set to 32bit floating point (Full Range) in your project settings? If so, this could cause things to slow down. I can’t view my time line with this setting if there are any effects or transitions added, without it going choppy.

Thanks for the reply, I did figure out what was going on. I had to decrease the quality of the render to medium. The reason I want HD for the web, is for those who want to view it on YouTube and can handle that format.

  • Hi Mark,

I have 8.1, but I uninstalled it because of that same issue, plus a multitude of different problems I had. When you are capturing hdv, there is no preview available. It will capture, but you have to monitor it off the deck or camera. I use 8.0 now with my 64 bit vista op. It has the preview I need and it’s faster at rendering, which is funny. Vegas support couldn’t offer any answers, besides telling me it’s a known issue. The only fix I found is to stop using the 64 bit version. I’m actually happy now with it’s performance. The hassles I experienced though, were frustrating. I think it best to not use any of their 64 bit versions, unless you know how to tweak your computer. Maybe someone on here can offer some knowledge and positive experiences with the 8.1 or 9 64 bit.
