  • Creating A New Project With Only Nested .VEG Files (Crashing)

Hello, I’m working on a project, where I’m dragging about 25 .veg files into a new project to render as a MPEG for DVD. I’m working with Vegas 9c 64bit and use a Vista 64bit os. The problem is, once I nest these projects all into one 50min new project, I can’t do anything, like preview a file, or check my email, without the program crashing. I did manage to render and burn a DVD after about 10 crash episodes. I accomplished this by very carefully, saving over and over and not touching anything besides the time line and the render settings. I did do some color correction, but nothing to intense. I want to do the project over, because there were a few mistakes that I’d like to fix, but I’m pretty flustered by the multiple crashes. Does anyone here possibly know something about this issue.

You may be the first person to use 50 nested veg files. 😉 The most I’ve ever used is 12 – 15. What is the source media in the nested files? It may be something that Vegas has a hard time handling anyway and then multiply that x50 and kaboom. You could always render the nested projects out and drop those into a master project and stitch them back together using smart render (no loss).

The source media consists of all HDV footage. Some are 60i .veg projects, while others are 30F(Canon XH-A1). I guess I could do what you suggest, but I was hoping to avoid the long re-rendering of every project. I think I’ll do a little experimenting to see which files cause the problem, while I continue to add them one by one. Maybe that will show something. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

I’m guessing that it’s the Canon 30F files. Are those projects 30F? Since nested projects look like any other media to Vegas, I would make sure that the projects that have 30F footage are set to 30F and not 60i. This way the master Vegas project will do all of the conversions. Otherwise, Vegas is trying to convert 50 projects on the fly and this might be what’s making it choke. (just a wild guess here but maybe worth a try)

Thanks John, I’ll check into it and see how it goes.
