The non-mac version definitely does not work in a Mac or Cubix expander connected to a mac.
I have two PC quadro 4000’s for sale if anyone wants them…. $1,000aud for both.

Thunderbolt will make very little difference to a Resolve suite. It already works without it. If you have work waiting, why wait longer for something that may or may not eventuate? If you don’t have work waiting then why are you getting a suite in the first place?

Double check you were supplied with Mac cards. They should have a MAC sticker on them. My vendor didn’t… so I know have two PC versions sitting here doing nothing as he won’t take them back.

August 14, 2011 at 10:20 pm in reply to: Finally making switch from Color – First big Epic job with little turnaround timeI have an Epic and shot some test footage of my kids at 96fps… just 20 (x96fps) minutes worth. It took about 2 days to process out Avid DNX185 rushes without the Rocket.
From a client pov, I would suggest you DO NOT use anything other than full debayer quality settings. That’s a big sacrifice and if your client doesn’t understand why (which is likely) they may just associate your work with “not full quality”. Know what I mean?
If you’re able to do this job smoothly, word will get around and you’ll get more work. Don’t forget that in about 8 weeks there’s going to be a lot of Epic-X’s hitting the market. Demand will go up if you’re equipped and can deliver. The Rocket might be a daunting investment but it’s going to make your life so much easier. Just factor a small additional cost into your hourly rate to cover it. Clients will like the words “real time Red rushes”.
FYI… here’s my set up:
Mac:
8 Core Mac Pro – 16tb RAM
Slot 1: ATI Radeon something or other
Slot2: Cubix PCIe Card
Slot3: HBA Adapter for RAID storage
Slot4: AVID DX CardCubix:
Slot 1: Quadro 4000
Slot 2: Quadro 4000
Slot 3: BM Video Card
Slot 4: Red RocketOnce you get going it’s going to be heaps of fun. I’m really enjoying getting into Resolve as it’s a substantial step up in terms of features for me, especially with the ability to shoot specific things and “try stuff out” off the clock.

Because FCPX is a… toy…. and Avid is a tool…. it brings out the tool in him?
Boom-Tish!

Dude you got RIPPED! MC retails for $2495 here and you can get it for almost half that if you look around on ebay… and you ‘upgraded’ your OS just for mail??? lol.
Sure, whatever gets you through the day. My Avid is for working, billing clients etc and must be stable for that purpose. Mail? my iphone can do that.
Amazes me some of the people in ‘the biz’.
btw… how is it Avid’s fault if you bought their software for a non-qualified system? YOU should have researched it first. I hope they DO charge you.

Try quitting MB Looks before quitting Avid… On my Mac it stays open in the dock even after MC has quit. I think that’s usually the trigger.

I get it all the time. System is completely AVID qualified. It means MC doesn’t have enough RAM to exit so it force quits at the last minute. Don’t know why as I have 16gb of RAM in the Mac, but it doesn’t affect anything else. Often happens while Magic Bullet is still open during exit.

Peter, I run an Avid DX system with a DaVinci Resolve hooked up via a Cubix expander.
If you would like to send the job to me let me know. I’d just need an AAF from you. I’m in Sydney. Understand if not possible due to busget etc. You can contact me at musikwerks (at) mac (dot) com if you like.
