With respect… adding an audio or video dissolve/fade is about as easy as it gets on Avid. Stop thinking of it like FCP. If you get stuck, go to the manual and look it up. I could care less if you like Avid or not. I’m just saying… it’s pretty easy if you approach it rationally and logically, and NOT as though it’s FCP.

July 30, 2011 at 9:59 am in reply to: Avid MC5, media not playing (but scrubbing fine)When you press play does the source or record monitor flash at the edges? If it does, it’s likely a window or bin overlapping, as mentioned. Try moving them all away from the area and check or “window” menu and “home”. Avid (I think) only “sees” 4gb RAM max, even if you have 32gb it makes no difference. Could be wrong on that one though.

Not being smart? He’s an idiot.
Avid say NO LION CERTIFICATION yet…. so what does he do? Install Lion and then bitch about Avid.
What a dick.
People like this should not be allowed anywhere near our industry. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Why do we need to upgrade to Lion?
What benefit will it bring to our Avid system?
Why would anyone upgrade to a new OS without first checking ALL software on the system was Lion endorsed by the developers?
My mac has all software updates turned off (especially the sneaky little one in itunes which updates QT). I will stay on this config until the cows come home. It’s working, it’s making me money and my clients don’t care if I run Lion or whatever.

You can always go back to FCP 7. I’m sure Apple support will help you…. oh, wait….

5 hours and counting…?
So when I buy my new car they can deliver the engine next week?
FCPX is a joke. Can’t connect to SAN storage, no edl export, no xml import unless you buy a $495 plug, no R3D support?
Have fun selling your toy software to any major client or any facility that uses multiple suites.

Despite requesting 2 x MAC Quadro 4000’s I was in fact supplied with PC versions. I bought a MAC card today to test it out…. sure enough…. all working fine.
So, I have 2 x brand new Quadro 4000’s for PC going for sale if anyone wants them… $1,200aud for both. Email me at musikwerks (at) mac (dot) com.

Chris, thanks for the heads up. Is there a way to roll it back to the other version?
The odd thing is, the mac knows there are two extra display cards when I do a system profile. It doesn’t know they’re quadro’s but it knows there are two extra cards there. Resolve sees nothing though.

Here’s my set up.
Mac 2 x 3GHz Quad Core – MacPro3,1
Motherboard PCI config
Slot 1: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Slot 2: Cubix PCIe interface
Slot 3: Avid DX Card
Slot 4: HBA Adapter card (ATTO) for external RAID array. All working fine.
Cubix 4 Expander config:
Slot 1: Nvidia Quadro 4000
Slot 2: Nvidia Quadro 4000
Slot 3: Empty – pending arrival of Red Rocket Card
Slot 4: BM Decklink Extreme HD.CUDA drivers are latest version but Resolve does not see the 2 x Quadro cards… only the 8800GT. It warns me each time I launch that I need GPU processing as well and recommends a couple of cards for the job.
BM are looking at it but I ‘ll ask here too.
Any ideas?
