Just wanted to say I love Bret’s power guides plugin. I’ve been using it on almost every project for several months now. I would still like to see Apple implement a built-in grid overlay in a future update, but considering this hasn’t been done after all these years, I’m not holding my breath. In the mean time, this tool from Bret is a great, and very affordable solution.

Not rendering clips with Optical Flow applied is not a new issue for 10.3. I experience that on a daily basis in 10.2.3, to the point where I’m in the habit of exporting master clips just to check that it’s free of analysis errors.

This is definitely part of the interface. It’s been there at least since version 10.1.3 and never bothered me before.

Sorry, I don’t think I’ve ever run into that problem before. BTW, it’s “Duplicate as Snapshot”, not screenshot. I realize you know what it is, just wanted to clarify. Hope someone here has a solution for you.

I’ve encountered the same issue. It doesn’t happen often, but is frustrating when it does occur, since the clip has to be exported to be played in realtime. I had attributed this to my underpowered computer (2012 Macbook with only 8GB of RAM), but my company just upgraded to a 5K iMac, and I’m having the same issue. Sorry, wish I could be of more help, just wanted you to know you’re not the only one 🙂

Thank you for the detailed workflow advice Phil. I work with 7D footage everyday (not by choice), so it’s always nice to learn new tips and tricks.

Just a minor clarification: what you’re talking about are “Library Smart Collections,” introduced in 10.2. Standard Smart Collections can still be created at the Event level. They both can be extremely useful, depending on your needs.

Great to know about this, thanks for sharing the solution that worked for you! I’ll have to try this next time it starts crashing on me (depending on the day, it can be quite frequent.)
