Hi Mason,
Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 and AME CC 2014.1 should support 8K frame sizes. To my knowledge, ProRes can support 4K maximum, so that may be your issue.Whoever says that AME is unstable might not be set up properly, especially users on OS X 10.9.x, or later. Certain methods of updating OS X can disrupt the permissions of crucial Adobe folders: https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/09/10/premiere-pro-cc-freezing-on-startup-or-crashing-while-working-mac-os-x-10-9-and-later/
Usually, this solves most issues. If not, and you are on one of those 2013 Mac Pros, it might be a good idea to have your dual AMD GPUs tested by Apple.

Is this occurring on an updated project or a new project. I think most would agree to never update a project file that is in progress. Can you try a new project? Reacting the same way or differently? Is it too late to go back to 8.0.1?Thanks,

Hi Jim,
Create a new 8.1 project. Create material in AE 13.1. Don’t use updated Premiere Pro CC 2014 or After Effects CC 2014 in your test.Still behaving the same way? There was a fix in 8.1/13.1 that addresses this.
The previous workaround is to close After Effects when rendering previews in Premiere Pro: https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/09/23/slow-rendering-of-after-effects-compositions-in-premiere-pro-sequences/

Hi Brent,
If you are running Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.010, that is not the current version. The current version is Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 (8.1). It should be fixed in the current version.That said, please do not update the project file to 8.1 unless your project is complete. Updating project files mid-way through project completion has been causing problems for some customers.
