Reinstall Premiere Pro. All installations of Premiere Pro simultaneously install AME. You need AME for export components to work correctly.

By “rendering” do you mean exporting? Is there a difference if you press Queue rather than Export?

I’m fairly certain that’s where your issue lies. I suggest you work locally and use the network drive only to backup media and projects. Is that possible?

The option for a checkerboard background was a feature in Premiere Pro CC 2014. It does not exist in Premiere Pro CS6. Sorry.
