Long load times – What’s it doing? And can we get an indcator?
So I’m cutting a feature with 3Tb worth of footage, and so far Premiere CC 2014 has been holding up very well, and been a real pleasure to cut with!
I do get full-on crashes once or twice a day, but that’s actually less than I had with FCP7. But one thing that’s starting to get to me is that the project takes several minutes to fully open. First I get a progress bar, then I can move around my bins and the thumbnails show question marks while everything loads (which is also indicated with a helpful notice at the bottom of the screen)…
But after it says everything is loaded, it’s still doing… something. There’s no sign of exactly what, other than that nothing will play or scrub for a few more minutes. But after a while, it finishes its navel-gazing, wakes up and works fine.
So can anyone tell me what exactly it’s doing during that stretch? I assume that whatever the process is, it only takes so long because the project is so big.
And in future, can we get some sort of indication from the program, like a progress bar, to tell me when it’s REALLY ready for me to start cutting?
