I’ve had this issue w/ both CC & CC 2014, but no problem w/ CS6 same machine. I create an animation in AE, import into PP and place it in the timeline. It plays OK. Move on to something else for a few minutes, and go back to Linked AE — doesn’t play. Toggle to AE and back to PP, link plays OK. Also, if I close AE, dynamic link sequence play OK. I was told by Adobe tech support the last time I went through this issue, that it was a memory leak. I mentioned that when I had the issue w/ CS6 that prevent App Nap seem to straighten out the problem, and although App Nap is available in PP (from Get Info), that option is not available in AE. After exhaustive cleaning caches, creating new users, deleting plugins etc., I was told by Support to go back to an earlier version until they work this out.

I had stayed away from CC because of this issue, and am put off by paying for a subscription for a product that I can’t really use.

    Any insights would be appreciated.

CC application indicates that I am up to date w/ cloud downloads. AE says version 13.1.1 – Aug 26,2014, Premier 8.1.0 – Aug 26, 2014.

Is there another update that the Cloud ap may not show?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,
Create a new 8.1 project. Create material in AE 13.1. Don’t use updated Premiere Pro CC 2014 or After Effects CC 2014 in your test.

Still behaving the same way? There was a fix in 8.1/13.1 that addresses this.

The previous workaround is to close After Effects when rendering previews in Premiere Pro: https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2014/09/23/slow-rendering-of-after-effects-compositions-in-premiere-pro-sequences/

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Kevin,

I’m not sure I understand what you are suggesting. I am using PP 8.1, and based on what the Creative Cloud program is saying it is the most recent CC 2014 update? And I am using AE 13.1.1 — also the latest CC 2014. Are you saying that AE 13.1 is OK but 13.1.1 is not? If so, I don’t see 13.1 available in the CC program.

Is there an AE 14 build? If so, my CC installer doesn’t recognize it. It says I’m up to date.

Any insights, additional suggestions and/or clarifications are truly welcome.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Just to follow up. Uninstalled Creative Cloud ap & AE 2014 (13.1.1) reinstalled both and deleted AE preferences (though I had none… but whatever). So far DLinked files playing OK in PP, no drop frames, no studder, and I don’t have to toggle back to nor shut down AE to get things to run smooth.

    Fingers crossed:-)

    Cheers,
    Jim
