[stephen adams] “The time code in the log and capture window and the time code on my camera is correct and in sync but in the log and capture viewer its NOT in sync its a few frames off.”

Do you mean that the timecode on your camera and the timecode displayed while you are capturing is a little off or do you mean that the audio is out of sync?

What drive are you capturing to and how is it connected?

    Stephen,

While the other two posters are right, you should monitor from the deck. I know that for confidence purposes you would like to hear it coming from the computer. Here’s how, In the log and capture window under the second tab (i believe) is a little tick box that says something like “Monitor Audio on Capture” put a check in that box and you should hear your audio.

[Marc] “Also, have any of you found certain add-on tools or pieces of equipment that you highly recommend?”

    Marc,

I bought a shoulder mount rig from Cavision that I really love. I have a good tripod but there are times when you just have to go handheld. One thing that I have found is that the 200 gets quite heavy and a little unbalanced after just a few minutes. The rig from cavision is great, and you can screw your tripod plate to the bottom of the mount and be prepared for anything during a shoot.

I have the single grip model.

[Barry Green] “For non-Panasonic products, there are PCMCIA->ExpressCard adapters for laptops from Duel Systems ($119) and Addonics ($69).”

Barry you got me so excited then I went to the addonics website and read this fine print…”Under Mac OS X, Panasonic P2 cards are currently not supported with this adapter.”

    Rats, foiled again.

[rafalaos] “Well Ken the support is a matter of time. SONY is SONY.”

You are right, but my point was, “How can you judge the ease of workflow when there is no workflow?”

Anyway, you are smart to not get in a rush.

    Cheers!

[rafalaos] “There they say that with the new Flash-memory of the XDCam EX, the workflow will be easier and faster than with P2 cards.”

What workflow? According to this https://ibc.mikkowilson.com/ there is no NLE support for XDCAM EX yet.

Also, red this thread for a Panasonic perspective: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/193/866842

Again, it’s your decision. Which tool will give you the greatest opportunity to be an artist?

[rafalaos] “Do you thinc that this camera (420, MPG2, etc) will equal the quality of the panasonic (DVCProHd..).”

    Rafael,

I’m not Shane (on many levels) but at this time my opinion is that DVCPro HD is the better format simply because it is much easier to edit. My understanding is that XDCAM is basically HDV. That means that it is a long GOP format and that means it is more trouble to edit. Of course, you can get around this with a capture card, but then you lose some of the time advantage of shooting solid state.

Of course, the decision is ultimately yours and must be based on your needs and what is available to meet those needs at the time.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike,

After you power on the HVX press and hold the select sbutton on the back until PC/DUB lights up. The cards should then mount on the desktop.

BTW, you do have the drivers installed right?

[Eric Jurgenson] “Should work great on my Axio. With 1000 lines resolution, it’s literally twice the rez of the HVX200.”

Twice the res with half the information. XDCAM is just HDV repackaged. I’ll take the rez hit for the ability to edit with ease and produce great looking images with my HVX.

We’ll see when this camera actually comes out what it can really do.

September 6, 2007 at 3:40 pm in reply to: P2, firewire 400? Will it do?

    [seamus] ” I have a macbook with firewire400.”

MacBook or MacBook Pro? I’d say that on a MacBook this is going to be iffy at best. With a MBP and FW400 you will probably be fine with 720, but 1080 may be a stretch.

    FWIW,
