What version of Quicktime are you running? 7.3 broke firewire capture with FCP 4.5. You will need to get back to 7.1.6 to use FCP 4.5. This is not an easy process. Best practice is to do a clean re-install from the OS up and only update QT to version 7.1.6.

    Barry,

Is this footage that was imported using Log and Transfer or that was imported using a third-party app like HD Log? All of my footage was brought in using L&T.

BTW, I have not updated and am not having problems, just trying to do my due diligence before an upgrade.

    Thanks

You have to import these into FCP before you can use them. FILE>IMPORT>P2, mount your P2 folder on your external drive, select your clips, drag them to the bottom window.

FCP cannot deal with native mxf files.

[jodyberry] “Oops, I should have mentioned that I was looking at the S2VR, not the HD Pro. Can I still use the S2VR for HD editing”

Certainly, I have two of those and they work very well with DVCProHD. I have never tried uncompressed because I just don’t have access to any.

Also, these units come with a card. Just order the one you need for your setup. I bought one with the pcie card from my MacPro and the other with the ExpressCard 34 for my MBP. Both work very well.

    Well (*&^*&@$(*^&%(&#$^(*!

All of my research pointed to the conclusion that all of the 8044’s had this feature. I now know what to ask.

FWIW, the seller didn’t indicate 16:9, he didn’t indicate anything. Hopefully he will take it back and I can start all over.

    Thanks for the help.

[stephanhill] “Is there a way to send the video single out through a VGA card directly to the monitor and by pass a deck or camera acting as a single translator?”

Just to be clear, are do you really mean VGA, or DVI. If it’s DVI then the MXO option will work. If it is really VGA then you will have to do one of the other options.

November 1, 2007 at 3:59 pm in reply to: FCP-Quicktime-BurnFolder-CD = Broadcast Quality?

[blakep] ” Will the broadcast quality hold up? It’s for another editor to use on a TV show.”

The term “broadcast quality” really doesn’t mean much in the industry today. I am assuming that what you want to know is if you can export and burn to disc without losing any quality. Correct?

The answer is yes. FILE>EXPORT>QUICKTIME, current settings, Make Movie Self contained. This will preserve the original quality without any loss.

October 22, 2007 at 12:17 am in reply to: can’t hear audio when capturing in FCP 5.1

[stephen adams] “The time code in the log and capture window and the time code on my camera is correct and in sync but in the log and capture viewer its NOT in sync its a few frames off.”

Do you mean that the timecode on your camera and the timecode displayed while you are capturing is a little off or do you mean that the audio is out of sync?

What drive are you capturing to and how is it connected?
