You might ask him just to give you a prores file. Its a good clean codec. then you just load in the quicktime plug in from apple and all is well in the world..

what you would do is… when you choose quicktime you would then choose the button CUSTOM. Then you would choose the drop down arrow for VIDEO FORMAT. Here you would normally choose H264 and set up your size etc. But H264 is missing.. so you can probably choose mpeg-4 video. I think that might work.. but you notice that they block H264.in quicktime. Why???? I don’t know. Otherwise you would have to create another type of quicktime and do the conversion in qt pro etc.

  • I use both and I feel in your situation FCP would work out better. Workflow would be easier because you cannot create a pro res file on a pc… You also can not create a .mov H264 file from Vegas.. I don’t know why they will not let you access the H264 in quicktime but it is removed…. These are 2 very common files in the workflow of a FCP house that will cause you problems… Ken

I had the same problems in CS3… My card is using the serial digital outputs so I have to hook it up to a ds digital audio board to hear the serial audio… keep your audio presets set for the blackmagic card just create another sequence (timeline) in the same project.. copy and paste into that sequence.. that usually solves the problem… don’t know why but premiere cs3 is probably one of the most buggy programs I have ever used

I had this problem and it turned out the the wrong type of connectors
were used on the some of the cables to the blackmagic card.. When the engineer finally replaced them the problem was completely solved…I will see if I can find out exactly what he did.. Ken

You can always load in xvid or divx codecs. They are free and look pretty good.. They can have an .avi extension
