A client sent me a number of mov files that I need to edit in Vegas. All I am able to import is the audio portion. No video.

Also when I try to play it with the quicktime movie player, latest version it gives me an error message that a codec in not installed (doesn’t tell me which one).

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

There’s your problem. Ask the client what codec they used. If they used one that is proprietary to Apple like the Apple Intermediate Code (AIC) there is no way to view them on a PC. If not, they just need to tell you the codec and you need to install it.

James, the biggest problem with QuickTime is that it’s an island unto itself and doesn’t always play too well with others.
All you can do at this point is ask the client to send you the file using a different render option.
I have heard (but can’t confirm) that the Apple MXF format as well as the Avid HD DNX codec (free download for us PC users somewhere on the Avid site) will work in Vegas.

You might ask him just to give you a prores file. Its a good clean codec. then you just load in the quicktime plug in from apple and all is well in the world..

    Hi there!
I’m having the same problem. My mov clips are all DVC Pro HD format but I can’t open it on Vegas even with Raylight Ultra installed. Any advice on how I can use edit with those clips?
All I’m getting now is the audio track but no video track.
Help! Desperately need to edit this by end of the week!
