Did you try just dropping your sequence in a 720×576
sequence and scaling it down until the footage fits with
With black bars on top and bottom? Then it’ll
look like its widescreen in its native format. I
do this all the time with hd footage and looks
    great!

Reality? What did you make it?

If you don’t need them that big you would do well to reduce the size before you bring it in and it won’t take so much ram just to read the image.

Don’t know what a HV30 is but, I always make my hd comps in square pixels. That way if AE is my last stop it will be the correct ratio. When you see it a nle it knows it’s to be 16×9 so it pops it out for you but the qt is in the squished ratio. For real nice slo-mo you would need to do overcranking, which I suspect your camera does not do? When “I play it with Quicktime, my clip is ALWAYS full screen.” Is that because your screen resolution is same as/smaller than 1920×1080?

Don’t forget to empty the database and cashe folder or purging all under Edit/Purge/All. Helped me more than once.

  • Are you running off an external USB self-powered drive? Does it like to wind down and right before your picture comes back can you hear it rev up? Are you using a mybook external? Have you tried emptying the cashe or purging from AE? Food for thought.

  • It will not be as seemless as in all adobe project connected by the dynamic link. There is something out there called automatic duck that people use. Read through this: https://www.creative-workflow-hacks.com/2006/03/09/moving-between-final-cut-pro-and-after-effects-the-scripting-option/
    Or if you have boris:https://www.borisfx.com/tutorials/XML-Transfer.php
But when? That is kinda up to you. When I finish my edit I export just the shots to be affected with handles to a qt movie, mess it in AE and export in uncompressed (animation) and then relink in FCP. So I never bring in the entire timeline, and wouldn’t want to (if only a couple of shots are to be effected and not the whole thing, why waste time rendering to import and render again?) Then the finished edit goes to Color. Cheers!

  • Sorry, it really doesn’t work that way, when you select all and copy, then tab over to AE and paste, it brings all the paths and makes them separate because it sees all the paths, some are intersecting and some are probably not closed. You’d have to make it one path in Illus and then it will see one path in AE. Is there anyway you can make it one path?

Anytime I render out of AE I always use animation, (Lossless with alpha) and everything comes out fine. How about not using the avid settings and just go with the animation quality? Does that make a diff? Won’t avid just make a mxf versoin anyways?

And how badass is your machine? Could you say, run a couple of instances on one machine? I do it all the time on mac pro dual quads as it doesn’t use all the processing power when rendering from the project, there is still a lot of unused cores. But once you get multiple machines working and seeing the watch folder, my advice is to leave them that way. I know some of us can’t always use other’s workstations but if you can…
