I think that I have seen someone place the gestures map/guide on top of a tablet under some sort of plastic cover and used it that way. I’m definitely going to experiment with gestures.

No problem. I’ve seen some of the Combustion Trainers use the intuos and it seems like once you begin to effectively use the tablets you never go back to the mouse.

I just order my Intuos3 and the Training CD was shipped Friday. So, I look forward to using it with Motion2 and Combustion.

Thanks. I tried the approach you suggest and nothing happens. I select to create a new AIFF and nothing happens. I can create a new sttings group folder but nothing with regard to creating a new setting. I’m stumped.

When I started this thread. I was looking for an answer as to whether a DVCProHD 1080p codec existed for the Kona 2 or Decklink Cards that would allow me to monitor at the highest quality. Outside of Technicolor Creative’s modified codec there doesn’t seem to be one. I’m sure that will rectified soon one way or another.

As far as the discussion about the Real Stream Andromeda/SculptureHD system. Well, I’m a simple man and not as technically knowledgeable about the discussion that has broken out about whether their system is legit or not. As a owner of a DVX100A, and a supporter of the development of a system that would allow me to get images like that I’ve seen over the last year (especially from the current beta test that is going on), this technology represents a breakthrough of tremendous magnitude and importance for me and other indie filmmakers who want to maximize our investment in current equipment.

How they are doing this I have no idea. But, I have no idea how Serious Magic’s DV Rack does what it does also. It works though. SculptureHD represents the DVRack part of the Real-Stream system. By passing the compression scheme of my camera and sending raw images using their proprietary method, then using Quicktime inside of SculptorHD as the method for bringing that data into my G5 (my method for a workflow will be DVCProHD though I won’t be limited to that-thus the reason for the initial question at the head of this thread) I will be dealing with images that I can form into the aspect ratio of my choosing. I’ve seen frames up to 36bit in size from this thing (which to me would be a waste of bandwidth because I only see a need to go to 10 bit, BUT THE POTENTIAL of this – amazing. My camera is a DV25 camera. To get anything above this with the quality that I am seeing is amazing. Period. For a total of around 6k (3k for the camera when I bought it and approx 3k for the Real-stream system) I will be in possession of a mini-Varicam. I still will need things like micro35 Cinema Lens Adaptor (see https://www.redrockmicro.com/home.html ) and everything else that would go into a professional shoot (eg., lighting, dolly, etc.) . But, I will be renting some of those things and buying others as techonology continues to advance and come down in price.

Now, as far as questions that Francios has, I would encourage anyone that has questions to direct them to their forum (https://forum.reel-stream.com/index.php?sid=859cacbfc5f47355f2a26b993531f317 ). If you do a thorough search I’m sure you will find that your questions have probably been asked already. The Beta period is almost over and production of the product is underway. So, I expect that the folks that have been waiting for this to hit will be able to discuss it further in the future.

    Luke,

So, does the RAM caching that Combustion goes through process any faster with the cards when framebuffing?

    Hi Luke,

I really appreciate your input on this.

[Luke Maslen] “What are you hoping to do with the card, ie connect to some kind of deck(s) or to a camera or simply for monitoring of HDV material? If you can let me know what you want to do, I can let you know which of the DeckLink HD series cards would be most appropriate for your needs.”

I will be using the card primarily for monitoring everything from 23.98 DV to 23.98 HD as I edit in FCP 5 and Composite in Motion 2 and Combustion 3 (I beleive C4 on MAC is about to come out shortly). Capturing won’t be an issue for me as I will be bringing in footage from a modified DVX100A using the Andromeda/SculptorHD system on a powerbook or Mac Mini. So, I will bring in my recorded uncompressed 4:4:4 footage from the laptop/Mac Mini to my G5. This will be accomplished using the SculptorHD software part of the system, from within the software I will choose to format at 720p (1280×720) into FCP5 using DVCProHD codec. Once on the drive I will edit as normal and monitoring will be the issue between apps like FCP5, Motion2, Combustion and DVD SP 4.

With the right card I want to be able to have the option to output to whatever delivery (be it up-rez or down rez) format my customers may want, or, be able to rent a D5 deck and output an Archive Master.

Thanks for the info on HDLink. I beleive that this is the way to go for me.

I will take your advice on the cables and connectors.

Finally, does the Decklink cards provide audio monitoring support like the Kona2. I use Soundtrack Pro alot and plan to add Nuendo soon and would like to be able to monitor audio from 2.1 up to 6.1 surround using Mackie or other compatible Control surfaces. One thought I had was to use the Tascam FW 1884, but if I can get audio from a card I can go to another setup. any advice in this area would really be appreciated.

Right now, this is the only workstation I have. Final Cut Studio, though buggy, offers the perfect workflow for my approach to the business.

    Hey man, what’s up?
This is a sweet scenario you suggest. Seems to me that what you suggest is highly possible. I’ll keep watch on that. Otherwise, I may have to fake a job and get these Technicolor catz to let me use that codec:)

    Hi Fred,
The workflow with the DVX after being modified with the Andromeda system is something like working with Serious Magic’s DVRack. The Andromeda comes with a proprietary software called SculptorHD. The raw footage is processed with in the SculptorHD software on a Powerbook into any format which you can usually export to/from FCP. This means you can export the footage as uncompressed individual TIFF frames, or a DVCPROHD clip, or any other format you already work with. After that, you just load it into FCP or Combustion just like you would any other file. It’s an amazing development. Seeing is beleiving though. There’s test footage on their website as the Beta Test is concluding.

About the 1080p codec question. I just read where Technicolor Creative Services had modified the DVCProHD codec to support 1080p/24p for a particular project that they were working on. You can read the article and give me your feedback when you can.

Does either of the cards have support for 1080/24p with say a DVCProHD codec?
