PCI-X takes legacy PCI units as well (it is backwards compatible) the only thing is that it will make the bus run slower – in regular PCI mode so if you only have PCI cards then just fit them in and they will work.

If you have some PCI-X stuff also like blackmagic/Aja HD card or disk controller make sure you fit the in different busses, put pci-x in the topmost slot and regular PCI cards to second an third

being broud Estonian it will take a while before I get my studio upgrade but as few posts up it sayz it works in unlimited RT mode is still MUCH better then render all the time.

As Alice Cooper would have but it few decades ago I wish I had gun to presuade apple to make photo-jpeg a “apple realtime” codec

  • for most of the satements AMEN

in the last 10% of the drive the preformance goes down quite fast but is still around 180 MB/s

FT runs on 10.3.8 as well so this should not be a problem (at least ver 1.04) my demo expired before 1.05 was ready so don’t know about that but I would recomand testing it under 10.3.8 and if dosen’t install (your key will not be initated) then think about it fruther

for sure SD pal @ 10 bit is 22.1MB/s
and SD ntcs @ 10 bit is 23.1MB/s

single sata drive should not go lower than 30MB/s on inner circles of the disk – when empty you should expect 55MB/s and stripeset almost doubles the preformance

this why it is a badi idea: if one of the disks fails you loose data on both.
this is why it is a good idea: you get more than on stream of uncompressed SD @ 10 bit

my recomandation would be to get yourself an external FW drive for yer system and project fails – so when something happens with yer external raid then you would only loose the media that you can recapture

if you are willing to spend a bit more than you could get yer self a swift data 200 (https://www.transintl.com/store/category.cfm?Category=2490) with the sonnet option then you would be able to add 3 extra drives to yer system so all three drives could be internal and you would have 2 slots for upgrade

I use my self the latest version – very happy with this, I have 4 drive raid0 and a system drive all inside my mac, I get @ empty drives 210+MB/s rw

May 12, 2005 at 12:01 pm in reply to: FPC_HD or AVID ADRENALINE

“Avid is also giving it’s sales reps tuition in hypnotism”

aaa that’s what it is I have been wondering about that for more than a year for now
I am working in a Country wit population 1.4 million so there is not much money moving in brodcast industry (well compared to Germany, UK, USA you name it) and somehow all the small studios take major loans from banks and buy adrenaline’s rather than save the money and be able to upgrade with next big thing they are stuck with their investment for a long time.

I have never worked on avid – doodeled a bit just to see how it works, RT stuff seems more impressive than FCP, codec mixing (but then again you have to import 🙁 ) sooo, if money is not a big thing and you do broadcast, not film, then I think avid is still in the race, but think of this way – while FCP would suffice or even perform better then the price difference should appear on yer pay-check

why do we choose between NLE’s – because we want to edit – why do we want to edit – beacuse we want to make some money in the progress

just my 2c and bit of rambeling on top
