    Hi,

Can anybody make a fair quess why apple insist not have RT effects on photo-jpg codec in FCP while their own offline preset uses the smae codec just not in full resolution

This would br very easy to implemnent compared to HDV long gop mpeg2

so any rationalisation would be appreciated

    Hi,

I’ve heard (and experienced on older macs) that the Photo-JPEG codec is a very processor-intensive codec, which means it take relative hard work (=time) for the CPU to compress and decompress the file. So it does make sense to assume when a lot of CPU time is already taken for compression/decompression it’s not the most likely codec to support for RT effects.

    Just my guess…

PhotoJPEG is as hard or as easy to compress as DV, or DVCproHD, and provides better picture. It’s an awesome codec that outperforms Apple’s ghastly Pixlet, for instance. I don’t see any reason why Apple don’t open up full RT for large PhotoJPEG video – they should do that now!!

being broud Estonian it will take a while before I get my studio upgrade but as few posts up it sayz it works in unlimited RT mode is still MUCH better then render all the time.

As Alice Cooper would have but it few decades ago I wish I had gun to presuade apple to make photo-jpeg a “apple realtime” codec
