One morething – when you have project coming in, in any other format than hdcam SR 4:4:4 buy the 600$ version and you will get it done.
And I am quite sure that You can pay for it by few short jobs.
And when the new products ship then you can sell it for few hunder bucks so it really shouldn’t be that hard.
Evrything else like fast disk arry, computer you can use with the new product, so these thing shouln’t add to the cost.It was really hard formyself to get the extreme card, I was afraid there isn’t enugh need for the product and first HD cards started shipping – less than 6 months later I had the dual 4:4:4 card paid by the extereme card and I still use the extreme card for sdi-analog-sdi conversions in a nother computer.
So my morale would be, start working with the products that fill the current needs and when you have requirement for 2K playback (you will have most likley 2K capture need – so far I understand that new bridge products will NOT offer this – PLEASE PLEASE HAVE HDSL compatibilty!!!!! – the only product so far, in about sane price level is bluefish444 and it is 16K $)
I am quite sure that is also possible to rent current bridge products so if you need conversion facilites you can get it done.

I am using BM HD 4:4:4 card so far without ANY hick-up’s
Considering what kind of monster I have built from my mac – external PSU for feeding extra drives that can handle 4:4:4 captures – and it all works, everytime.
I cannot comment about aja products because when I bought my first SD card I could not afford Aja and the time I bought my HD card aja could not handle 4:4:4 yet.
Only thing so far is that Aja can handle upconvert from SD in realtime – there are no other differences that I am aware of other than the price 😉-Kaspar

The other thing that is in dire need for mac frame link is the possibilty to subdevide the frames to folders – opening an 1 hour file – well it takes a while….

It is more like coping digi beta – it does employ some compression done in the machine hardware but generation test are OK after 10 or so copies.

the lowest I have ran 10bit analog captures @ SD is PII 1200Mhz – 128MB ram two sperate ultra ata drives. Did not get preview through deck controll but did get nice quitime files that I used later.
So I think you should be fine-Kaspar

both, also jpeg and I am using sheer codec on 1080 50i project as well – on my dual 2Ghz it plays aevery other frame though so you need something faster

What you get in “About this mac” is right
also you should get SD signal out – make sure that you apple display is swiched on – the switch might be bit tricky – that was my case (I know, sounds REALLY stupido)-Kaspar

lets start with simple things:8bit uncompressed / DV : uncompressed codec has more color resolution (Video frame is divided to 3 channels luma (black and white image) and 2 croma channels, but usually the croma channels have only half the resolution of luma) in uncompressed the croma channels are 2x smaller than the original resolution while in PAL DV first channel is 2x smaller and the next one is 4x smaller, extra to that you add lossy compressiona that is 5x smaller in bit size than the original.
Therefore 8 bit uncompressed is superior to anyd DV footage
The other side to the story is that uncompressed is about 10x larger (file size) than DV (1h of DV roughly 12GB; 1h of uncompressed 80GB) so if you have the space use uncompressed if not then DV or DVCpro seem like viable options – DVCpro is better format than DV because of colour sampeling – also bigger than DV (file size)You can use photoJpeg that is almost as good as 8bit uncompressed but you will loos realtime effects (file size wise it is very small – even smaller than DV)
what ever codec you want to use you will find the apropriate easy setup in FCP

Your are mix maching PCI-X and PCIe, there are no PCI-X grapic accelerator that attch tou your monitor (ghrapic cards like nvidia atie etc) they are PCIe (sometime refferd to as PCIx (this is not PCI-X what is prallel connection of 64 lanes in varius speed from 66-133MHz)) so you cannot put decklink card in the PCIe slot because it just wont work (untill new multibridge hardware will start shipping) if you work only SD than in dual processor setup it still works in regular 33MHz PCI slot – have not tested dual core – no way ti get the chip around here
