  • A8N-SLI Mobo. Does it works?

This message is for the BM guys and anyone who wants to give some advice. It will be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, the new Minimum System Requirements (Windows, SD) from BM page are not very clear, at least to me.

I didn’t find the Asus AN8-E mobo here in Mexico, the most similar was the A8N-SLI.

I did find an nVidia GeForce 6 series PCI Express graphics card, as recommended (Extreme N6200 GE).

SLI Technology means you can put 2 SLI-ready graphics cards in the 2 PCI-X slots and play with two monitors. O course I don’t want that. When you put two different cards in the slots, one of them funcions as 16x and the other as 1x. If I put my Decklind Extreme in one PCI-X slot, then the nVidia card will lower its performance and it will be a waste doesn’t it?

I know, the BM page says you can put the Decklink card in a normal 32bit PCI slot IF you have a “Dual Core System” with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 4200+ or higher CPU. But this processor is so new you don’t find it in Mexico, so I bough a 3000+.

Can I just put my Decklink in a PCI-X slot, with the Extreme N6200 GE in the other as PCI-X 1x?

    Would this configuration work?

Please help me while it’s time to change the mobo or the graphics cards with my dealer.

    Paco.

Your are mix maching PCI-X and PCIe, there are no PCI-X grapic accelerator that attch tou your monitor (ghrapic cards like nvidia atie etc) they are PCIe (sometime refferd to as PCIx (this is not PCI-X what is prallel connection of 64 lanes in varius speed from 66-133MHz)) so you cannot put decklink card in the PCIe slot because it just wont work (untill new multibridge hardware will start shipping) if you work only SD than in dual processor setup it still works in regular 33MHz PCI slot – have not tested dual core – no way ti get the chip around here

    Hope this cleared sometihing up

    Hi Francisco,

The system requirements are becoming quite long as we’ve added more equipment which works well with DeckLink cards. We’ll see if we can find some way to make it clearer.

We haven’t tested a A8N-SLI motherboard so I can’t gurantee it will work. However it’s specifications look OK to me. Unfortunately Matt is a way for a few days so I can’t check with him for his opinion.

The A8N-SLI does not have any PCI-X slots. It has PCIe slots and PCI slots. The DeckLink Extreme can be used in PCI-X or PCI slots. That means your only choice is to use one of the PCI slots for your DeckLink Extreme.

The nVidia GeForce 6 series PCI Express graphics card should be placed in a 16 x PCIe slot.

    Thanks Kaspar, thanks Luke.

Your comments cleared things up for me. I appreciate them.

Looks like I’ll have to get the dual core AMD processor and put my DL Extreme in a 32 bit slot.

However it would be nice to be sure that the A8N-SLI mobo will work. If it is not too much to ask, I’ll appreciate it if someone from BM could tell me.

    Thanks again.

    Francisco.
