BlackMagic HD 444
Posted by Skip Cercelletta on September 3, 2005 at 9:47 pmI’ve got an blackmagic HD pro board and have not started my film yet; but in viewing these posts and AJA KONA’s as well, it would appear AJA HD is the way to go. I was really happy to get this piece of equipment but all the stress I see has really turned me off to Blackmagic Designs. I have been reading AJA’s posts and don’t see 1/10th the issues, am I not seeing something here?

If you are planning to give your card away I’ll be more than happy to take it… The BM cards offer excellent performance at a very reasonable price, and their customer service is as responsive as you’ll find anywhere. Most people come to this site when things aren’t working as expected — its not were they come to post all their good news. And, much of what you read here is from people who have recently upgraded their hardware and software, so naturally you can expect them to encounter issues and to request support, because that’s what this forum is for.
I am a very proud owner of a new BM Extreme card, and I’m very happy with my purchase.

September 5, 2005 at 7:00 amI am using BM HD 4:4:4 card so far without ANY hick-up’s
Considering what kind of monster I have built from my mac – external PSU for feeding extra drives that can handle 4:4:4 captures – and it all works, everytime.
I cannot comment about aja products because when I bought my first SD card I could not afford Aja and the time I bought my HD card aja could not handle 4:4:4 yet.
Only thing so far is that Aja can handle upconvert from SD in realtime – there are no other differences that I am aware of other than the price 😉-Kaspar

September 5, 2005 at 7:27 amHi Skip,
I’m glad to hear you’ve purchased a DeckLink HD Pro card and would just encourage you to give it a try. We’re very happy that this forum is so active and would be alarmed if it was quiet. We regularly release new versions of drivers with new features or compatibility updates and that is one thing that generates more questions on this forum. We’ve also got a couple of new products that are due for release very shortly and they are also generating a lot of interest in this forum. We sell a large volume of both SD and HD DeckLink cards and naturally this leads to questions. We’re always happy to try to answer any questions you may have here. DeckLink HD Pro 4:4:4 has supported 4:4:4 for well over a year now so we have a mature technology which works well and I think you will be very happy with the quality.
Regards,
Luke Maslen
