  • What do you want to have on the shapes? Solid black?

Basically you need two solids that animate from the corners in, then flip so that the diagonal split goes the other way, then animate out.

(As to the keyframing issue, make sure only one keyframe is selected. This is easier to do by navigating from one keyframe to the other with the arrows next to the add keyframe button. If you click on the Position value instead, you’ll likely select ALL position keyframes, not just one.)

You can render the animation from AE with an aplha channel (AVI with RGBA, for instance) and place it above the video layers in Premiere so that the center point where it is all black aligns to the cut.

In essence, for placing 3D objects, your sequence of actions is backwards: you want to place the 3D text after you’ve created the 3D camera from the tracking data, not before. And then animate it.

IN THIS CASE: But, in this case it is highly doubtful that you even need 3D tracking data. 2D tracking the wing is likely going to work as well or even better, since you are only tracking some slight shake and the camera is not moving in relation to the craft itself. Although I wouldn’t recommend this as the usual workflow, you can render out your Element layer as footage, 2D track a point on the wing, apply the tracking information to a null and parent the (Element) footage to the null and you’d be done.

As for doing something like this with the 3D Camera tracker, a better sequence of actions would be:

    1) Track the camera
    2) Set Origin Point and Ground Plane on the wing, at the point you want your text. This way your wing will align to the ground plane in Element.
    3) Create 3D camera (from 3D Camera Tracker)
    4) Place your text in the Element world center on the ground plane
    5) Now the text should be in the right spot, but you may need to scale and rotate it on the Y-axis, possibly move it some on X and Z axis to get the exact position. (Don’t move the text along Y axis, as 0 y is on the wing surface. And don’t rotate on other axis than Y, otherwise you’ll end up not being parallel with the wing.)
    5) Animate the rest of the motion

I doubt it is going to do as good a job this way as 2D tracking in this case.

  • Well, I still don’t understand where you get that edge shadow from. I can enlarge the plane however large I want and get no shadow at the edges. See example below, where I scaled the plane to 10000% which is the maximum scale setting. Seeing your actual project file would clarify what is happening.

September 21, 2015 at 7:24 pm in reply to: CC; selecting VECTOR MASKS

I tried this out and believe the problem is that it doesn’t actually create a mask path when you press the add vector mask button. If it did, drawing another mask on it would make the second mask a boolean cut-out (intersecting shape) with the first one. It doesn’t, as the newly drawn “second” path becomes the ONLY path of the vector mask when completed. My conclusion is that there is actually no mask created when you press that button and consequently there is no path there to select or edit to begin with.

Do you know Photoshop? Generally much easier to do website mockups in Photoshop.

I updated my BMCC 2.5K firmware recently and do have those options available.

Although this doesn’t have anything to do with Video Copilot: What happened to the original mts files? Why don’t you just archive them?

September 21, 2015 at 6:15 pm in reply to: Fake pan

I would think you can get a similar if not the same result using the Optics Compensation Effect (reversed compensation) on a precomposed layer within which the original footage is panning.

  • Let me first try and understand what you are doing: What is it that you are animating? Do you have a 20-frame animation of the head moving from left to right and another 20-frame animation of the head moving from up to down? If so, you won’t get all the poses, you will just get either the up-and-down motion or side-to-side motion. You’ll need 20 x 20 frames = 400 frames to cover all the head positions. Is this what you have?

Or do you have it set up in a different way? How?

  • If all you dots are separate layers, no need for expressions: you can copy the final position keyframe from the home office, select all your other dots at the final position point in time and paste. The same position keyframe will be pasted on each layer.
