November 12, 2006 at 10:36 am in reply to: conforming HDV from a HDR-M10 – anyway to bring it in as HD uncompressed? This was the original path – the problem is that the rest of the footage it is being conformed with is true HD 1920×1080 – so one way or the other there will be some rendering going on (hence wanting everything in true uncompressed HD) – need to look at how much footage is in HDV and might end up going the media manager route…

November 12, 2006 at 6:48 am in reply to: conforming HDV from a HDR-M10 – anyway to bring it in as HD uncompressed?Thx for the response guys – I have an ‘older’ black magic multibridge extreme so might see if i can use that….
so basically the idea is…
patch analogue component out from HDV deck into blackmagic analogue in (assuming it has it) and use ‘DV’ as a the controller… right?
This is probably a stupid Q – but am i losing quality by going this route? would quality be better if I captured via firewire and resized/export in FCP?
thx

November 4, 2006 at 11:25 am in reply to: is it possible to ‘soft edit’ a clip? – IE: capture LONG clip – use EDL to ‘cut’ it up… OR use EDL to create markers?Sounds like what I need Mishka – will check it out…Do you know if it will name the marked point according to the name in the EDL?
Thx.

August 2, 2006 at 3:50 am in reply to: Looking for advice to give to offline editors re- consolidating clipsHi Kevin, thx for the response.
I have tried the followng (Using FCP 5.04):
selected all the sub clips in the bin -> selected modify = there is no option to make independent.
selected all the clips in the timeline -> selected modify = make independent is greyed out
selected all the clips in the timeline -> right clicked => selected make independent.
after I did that I made all the media offline and tried recapturing but it seems to only want to capture 4.04 sec (my sub clip lengths were more than that)
Also tried using media manager to create a new project for me with the same out come unfortunately…

the purple haze you are getting could be due to having 444 out enabled in blackmagic preferences…

That’s correct special case- nvidia 6600 I believe…
Just one Q… and it’s more out of curiosity than anything else – but could apple not have done something where ‘overflows’ IE larger parts use the cpu?

May 9, 2006 at 11:31 am in reply to: HELP – credit roll via motion+PSD/TIFF = bad qualityThx for the repl Specialcase – I think you are right…
The PSD layers were too large – by cutting it up into smaller pieces it is high res again….
So FYI for others – you can use a HUGE PS file – just need to ensure each layer is a max of 4000pixels… I think… 🙂
SO just to confirm each ‘layer/clip’ can be a max of 4000pixel by 4000pixel or in my case 1920×4000 pixels?

April 14, 2006 at 1:56 pm in reply to: Blackmagic 10bit RGB 444 codec cross compatibility concerns…It’s the very top line – so 1 pixel.
something to note – is that the PC DOES NOT have a BM card in it – but then again, neither does the other MAC where the codec was fine…
I’ll send u jpg when I get to work Kristian…

April 11, 2006 at 1:15 pm in reply to: POLL – who would use DPX or Image sequence capture in Decklink.Would LOVE capture to DPX – only problem is QT does NOT support DPX files at all, and from what I have seen, plugins are limited in what they can do (IE converting internally to 8 bit before displaying)
the other major problem is that FC does NOT support file sequences in any way or form; something I believe is rediculous…I hate the fact that I can’t import a DPX sequence adjusted in shake for film burn to ensure that there are no bad frames… but heck that’s for another time…
If you wanted to get picky, a BM QT imported and rexported (via shake) and then compared via difference test will NOT be exactly the same, there are very minor changes but it is not visible to the eye – only via numbers – again it is so minor though that it is not a concern…. a DPX how ever is the same…
I’ve heard rumours that we might hear something at NAB about the ability to import DPX, but I ain’t going to hold my breath…
