    Hi Elias –

I would suggest adding the dust in AE. It will be much easier to create plus easier to adjust/less render time then tryin to do it in C4D. Can you upload a QuickTime of the flicker you are still seeing?

    Hi Elias –

Took a look at your scene. Looks like your main light source is an area light. In my experience, area lights always produce flicker in animations. Maybe it’s just me, but I tend to stay away from them for animations. I would suggest using a omni light, with falloff set to inverse square, and some soft shadow maps. Then turn on ambient occlusion, and you should have a fairly similar look. You can adjust the falloff of the light, the ao settings, and the shadow settings to get a similar look. That should take care of your flicker. No real need for GI in the scene. Just some nice lighting and you should be good to go.

    Adam,

Thanks so much for all your help. I completed the project on time and everything ended up working out great. I ended up using the mograph displace deformer, which works amazing. Thanks again for all your help.

I’ll post a link to the finished video here sometime next week.

Thanks for your quick response!! I love creative cow.

Shine is from Trapcode also right? So I would use shine to produce the “plane of light” than particular/3d stroke to create the sweeping lines of light…right?

    Adam,

What would baking the PLA do? Would that keep my SPD? I tried using the Mograph displace deformer, however, I can’t get the intricacy of the displacement without using SPD? Is there something I can do to allow the displacement to be the same without using SPD. I’m using a cube object with 30 segments in x,y,z. Also, my displacement is making the edges of my cube to become rounded, any way for me to make the edges 90 degree angles while keeping my displacement?

    Randy,

Thanks so much for your help. I looked through your setup, what does the second plane below the water help achieve? Is it kind of like an ocean floor? When I placed a plane under my ocean it didn’t achieve the same results. I’ll post a quicktime link up here some time today. Whenever the renders finished.

    Thanks again!

April 2, 2009 at 10:04 pm in reply to: Alpha Channel Plane Objects & AO

    Thanks guys,

I ended up taking off the scene AO and using mainly more lighting and a soft AO on the background image. It turned out nicely. Still couldn’t get the filigree modeled as an object in C4D. It’s really just thin lines so I’m not sure how I would have done that. Anyways, on to another project. Thanks guys.

    Brian,

I could do that for a few of them…don’t know why I didn’t think of that. But, there is one object that I don’t know how to build in 3d. It is an intricate filigree type .ai background that I wanted to be able to animate. However, the paths are way to intricate to create any type of extrude nurbs from it. So I went with a plane and an alpha material. Is there a way to make it easier on myself? For the quick fix i put the filigree in the background image. I can’t animate it but I’m not getting my shadowing problems there.

    Brian,

What channel in the material would i apply the AO too? Would I not need to apply it to the floor or ceiling materials?
