Not sure why you are creating a new sequence for the export.
From what you have described it seems to me that the most straight forward way for you to achieve the letterboxed 4×3 playout would be to export from your original sequence using quicktime conversion and selecting a 4×3 frame size (if you are NTSC, which I assume you are due to the 60i, I believe its 654×480 – I’m in PAL-land)and then select preserve aspect ratio by letterbox and you are good to go.

Hi Aemilia,
One thing I always find when rendering h.264 in compressor is that it never gives an accurate time estimate. I have rendered many a 30min file which has after an overnight render said it has 9+hrs left to go yet finishes 30mins later.

In order to monitor your playout accurately you will need a calibrated monitor. The reason broadcast monitors are expensive is that they a fully calibratable and have numourous I/O options.
Something you could do to make the images on your monitor more representative of the output is to load some SMPTE bars in AE and then adjust your monitors display settings until the bars look correct. This will not be as good as having a broadcast monitor but it will improve your monitor view without costing a fortune

For support reasons I would suggest not going for the G4 and instead go for one with an intel core – mac minis from 2007 onwards should be able to cope with encoding and converting but they will have low specs than a lap top of that age so I wouldnt imagine it would be much faster than your MBP.

I’ve had a similar issue with R3D and DSLR material and it was solved by altering the timeline conform options so that the source clip file pathname was used to get the reel number.

Can’t say that there isnt a way for definite but if there is I haven’t found it – was looking into that a while back.

I would suggest double checking the pathname set up on the timeline control options in the config to make sure its reading the reel name of the footage correctly.
