Technical reason is the power supply almost certainly can’t handle it, there is very little room on the MacPro ps, the 285 sucks up a lot of juice. As to errors.. I’ve seen installs with ati & q4000 and they seem to work ok, other than the not very good performance of the q4000 of course.

No kidding. Not to mention being able to use the plugin in a node and generate some mattes… So use a great keyer as a compliment to the qualifier. Hopefully in the future, they have listened to many of our requests in the past.

You have to issues to contend with. One is physically getting that cable to run from the optical bay compartment to the pci compartment, this is much, much trickier than you think. But there are ways… though you might not be able to close the box after. 😉
The second issue is trickier… it’s getting the power supply to handle that draw. I would think it very unlikely to impossible that the built in power supply would work.

You mean as in truncating the clips to just the used bits? You need to use redcine-x, it’s the only app able to export r3d files. But you’re probably better off keeping the r3d media on your clients drive… and then rendering out just the used bits to DPX or delivery format of choice.

Actually you can stack the layers… use a qualifier to create a key and then feed that key into an Alpha Out on a clip. There by revealing what’s underneath. But you are still probably better off on a true compositing app. Though this is a good way of creating a rough composite in order to better balance the colors.

You’re on a PPC based system? It’s a miracle you can get one stream to play. You don’t have the horsepower for multistream 444.
