What kind of mouse or pointing device do you have? Does it Have special drivers installed?

I don’t know of any that will automatically populate the metadata. But what you are looking for is digital asset management. The most commonly installed of these is adobe bridge. Would check out the if you have it to see what functionality it has that may be able to help.

With your offline project open. Create a new bin. AMA link to the media at the new location. New bin then becomes populated with AMA media. Original media should be relinked automatically.

A USB mic is not a 1394 source. 1394 is specifically firewire devices (cameras and decks). I don’t know what the procedure would be for inputting voice into the avid from a usb device. But if you’re on a mac you could use garage band (or one of many free audio recorders including quicktime) to record the vo and then just import the AIFF. Same thing applies for a pc, but I don’t off hand know what free or built in recording utilities are available.

Yep. The F3 records in the XDCAM EX format on SxS cards. You do need that AMA plugin and all should work. If you haven’t figured that out already.

If your priority is a video workstation / game system, with the ability to play around with resolve. I’d recommend saving a little $ and just getting a 580. You can run resolve on a single card, you’ll just take a performance hit. But not a huge one. If you’ve got a client breathing down your neck it would be better to have two cards. But since your just using it to learn it shouldn’t be much of an issue, you’ll save some cash, and avoid having to switch the monitor cable everytime you want to play a game.
And, btw, I did answer your specific question a ways back, before I got smarmy.
Here an actually helpful tip. If you’re going to edit using premiere you’ll need your beefier card connected to the monitor anyway to take advantage of the mercury engine. Which will help a lot with your 5d footage. So all around one card is a better choice.
Maybe wait till 680 ships, and save the $ from quadro for a bigger ssd boot drive or more ram.

I think Joseph’s broader point is that Resolve is a professional application with which to do work… and trying to multipurpose it as a gaming system is probably not a good idea, and suggests you aren’t serious about doing professional work.
And that if you wan’t to play video games you’re better off getting a dedicated system to that purpose.
But all of that I think is self evident.
BTW, you can use a keyboard and mouse on the PS3. Many FPSs support it.

What sort of media is it? Codec, frame size? How is it stored? How are you bringing it in?

Try playing it in vlc. Mostly it’s probably a function of your CPU. That is a really old box by computer standards. You don’t mention what os your are running, but a gig or two of ram is not very much.
