    Hello,

I am building a Windows workstation per BMD Davinci Resolve manual to do all of my design and video work. Since this will be my only computer, I was hoping I can use it to play some games too.

Since I am only working with video shot with my 5D, I am going with a Quadro 600 for GUI and a GTX 580 3gb for GPU.

If I am not wrong, does this mean I won’t be able to take advantage of the GTX 580 if the GUI monitor is hooked up to the Quadro 600?

    Thank you for your time.

If you have your monitor attached to the Quadro, Davinci will use the Quadro for the GUI, and the GTX 580 for the rendering. So I think your setup will work well for you.

My apologies if I was not clear. What I mean to ask is, would I be able to use my GTX 580 for gaming?

If my main monitor is connected to the Quadro, will games use the GTX 580 instead since games perform better on it?

You’ll need to connect the monitor to the 580 to use it for most games. There may be some games out there that allow you to redirect the render engine to a separate video card… but I doubt that is very common.

    Thank you.

I thought so. I am knew to the whole idea of running a Quadro and GeForce GPU on the same machine. Hopefully when I run games off the 580 the drivers wont freak out my machine. Will have to wait and see when I finally build the workstation end of the month.

    Best,

Get a DVI switcher from Monoprice – switch per application.

Better yet, why don’t you just run out and buy a PS3?

Not really. Best BluRay player on Earth and it is purpose-built for entertainment. Try popping a BluRay disc in your MacPro and see what happens.

I drive the GT4 Nordschliefe circuit in an AMG for relaxation. In the rain. At dusk.

Dont get me wrong it is a great system and good suggestion. The thing is, to me, a hand held controller is a terrible way to play first person shooter like MW3 and BF3 or strategy games like Starcraft 2, which is what I mostly like to play. Besides I rather put the extra cash on the computer 😉
